Winamac to rebid paving project

Winamac Town Council members recently learned they would be opening more bids and that more roads can be repaved.
During a regular meeting on Aug. 8, town manager Brad Zellers said the town is rebidding the project because “we can do twice as much work.”
The town is now looking at paving more streets and 42 sidewalk ramps could be updated to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
The town applied for state grant funding focused on roadwork. As part of the grant process, the town was required to grade the various roads. To get an accurate cost of how much it would be to repave the roads, the council let a bid. The result was two bids that were opened were reviewed by Zellers and it was discovered that more roads could be repaired. The bids were opened on July 22.
Clerk-treasurer Melanie Berger said the Indiana Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) has approved the initial paperwork. It will be reviewed by the Indiana Department of Transportation.
Zellers is hoping the council can approve a bid so that if the grant funding is approved, then they will already be on a company’s project list.
A public meeting was scheduled for Aug. 29 at 7 a.m. to open the bids.
