November 8, 1922 - June 27, 2008 Janet N. Wentz, 85, of 1295 E SR 14, Winamac, died June 27, 2008 at Life Care Center of Rochester in Rochester. She was born November 8, 1922, in Constantine, Mich., the daughter of Charles and Ella Buck Peters. On January 6, 1946 in South Bend, she married Robert Harold Wentz. He died February 15, 1981. She was a former resident of South Bend and Knox. She was a member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Winamac. She was a retired manager of the L.S. Ayres Store at Scottsdale Mall in South Bend. She was employed there for 18 years. She loved to sew, read and go walking in the park. Survivors include: a daughter, Sandy Stein of Ft Wayne; a son, Howard [Phyllis] Wentz of Winamac; a sister, Joan [Richard] Jacobs of Three Rivers, Mich.; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Robert Harold Wentz; her father, Charles Peters; her mother, Ella Buck Peters; her son-in-law, Ron Stein; two sisters: Betty Whistler, Charolette Corey; three brothers: Pete Peters, Sam Peters, Sonny Peters. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. EDT Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. Burial will take place in the Victor Chapel Cemetery in Star City. August 27, 1914 - June 29, 2008 Annamae Paulsen Lange, 93, wife of the late Harold A. Lange of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2008. All services will be held at a later date in Indiana. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel. Mrs. Lange was born August 27, 1914 in San Pierre, the daughter of the late Louis C. Paulsen and Sophie Stephen Paulsen. She graduated from San Pierre High School and was a homemaker. She is survived by son Gerald Allan Lange and his wife, Carol, of Isle of Palms, S.C.; two grandchildren, Andrew A. Lange of Charleston, S.C. and Brian M. Aug. 1, 1922 - June 22, 2008 Col. Raymond A. Siebert, USAF (Ret.), 85, of Austin, Texas passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2008 in San Antonio, Texas surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 1, 1922 in Winamac, Indiana to Conrad Joseph Siebert and Della Rans Siebert. Upon graduation from high school, he worked at the local hardware store until he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in April of 1942 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant after completing Aviation Cadet Training in May of 1943. He met and married the love of his life, Virginia Merle Schmeltekopf on March 12, 1946 while stationed in San Marcos, Texas. Later that year, he was assigned to the Philippines. After a short tour there, he attended a training school in Florida followed by assignment to Great Falls, Montana where he trained for the Berlin Air Lift. In 1949, he piloted the C-54 into Berlin bringing relief supplies to the people of Berlin which signified the first confrontation between Democracy and Communism. He served as a B-29 and B-47 pilot at March Air Force Base from 1951-1961. In June of 1954, he piloted a B-47 bomber that flew in a historic flight between the mainland and Japan, then recorded as the longest non-stop jet flight in history. In 1961, he was assigned to Headquarters, Strategic Air Command, as Chief of Training Plans. During this assignment, he participated in a demonstration of the B-47 to the government of Australia, which had been offered this bomber by the United States. In 1966, he was assigned to Turkey where he aided in the evacuation of Wheelus AB from North Africa to Spain during the Israeli-Egyptian War of 1967. He was then assigned Deputy Base Commander and subsequently Vice Wing Commander of the 390th Strategic Missile Wing at Davis-Monthan AFB in Arizona. In 1971, he served as the Assistant Deputy Commander of Operations for the 1st Strategic Aerospace Division at Vandenberg AFB, California. He retired from the Air Force in 1973 achieving the rank of Colonel. He moved to Austin, Texas in 1974 where he and Merle lived the past 34 years. He was known for more than 30 years to family and friends as “Popo”. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, spending time with his family and friends and beloved cats. He is survived by his loving wife of more than 60 years, Merle “Momo”; son, Dr. William Terry Siebert and wife, Andrea; daughter, Sheran Kay Oliverio and husband, Col. Ronald D. Oliverio, USAF (Ret.); grandchildren, Dr. Kimberly Rutter and husband, Chris, Scott Siebert, Kelly Siebert, Dale Oliverio, Michelle Oliverio Papst, and Kristen Oliverio John and husband, William; great-granddaughters, Riley and Reagan Rutter and Shelby Papst; and of course, his beloved cat, “Princess”. The family will receive friends from 6:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M., Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 27, 2008 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with Dr. Robert Lee Schmeltekopf officiating. Interment will follow the services at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park with Full Military Honors rendered by Lackland Air Force Base Honor Guard. August 20, 1910 - June 26, 2008 Geneva K. Nicholson, 97, of 624 E. 13th Street, Winamac, died June 26, 2008 at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac. She was born August 20, 1910, in Tuscola, Ill., the daughter of William and Margaret Korte Vermillion. On May 22, 1932, in Covington, Ind., she married William K. Nicholson. He died March 17, 1988. She was an avid Purdue football and basketball fan. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, camping, fishing, and especially spending time with her family. She was a former resident of Buffalo, Lafayette, Monticello and Frankfort, Ind. She was a former employee of the Kingsbury Ordinance Plant and Purdue University. Survivors include: two daughters: Gretchen Bleicher of Winamac, Kay Eenshuistra of Winamac, two sons: William [Jean] Nicholson of Winamac, Jim [Judy] Nicholson of Northbrook, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her father, William Vermillion; her mother, Margaret Korte Vermillion; her husband, William Nicholson; a grandson, Jim Doty; a granddaughter, Debbie Cassell; a great grandson, Robert Nicholson; four brothers; one sister. April 25, 1944 - June 25, 2008 Linda L. Braun, 64, of 2339 Oak Tree Circle, Winamac, died June 25, 2008 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. She was born April 25, 1944, in Winamac, the daughter of Theodore and Doris Keys. Linda was a member of the Winamac Church of the Nazarene. She was the co-founder of the Braun Corp. in Winamac. After raising five children, Linda went on to do fundraising for the Cancer fund and the Heart fund. She was a generous contributor to local schools and the CASA Program. Linda loved to travel. She especially enjoyed traveling the NASCAR racing circuit. Linda also enjoyed traveling with her children and grandchildren and mother. Linda was a wonderful, loving, amazing and generous person. Survivors include: her mother, Doris Winters of Largo, Fla. and Winamac, two daughters: Cherie Braun-Diaz of Seminole, Fla., Melissa Haley of Winamac; three sons: Todd Braun of Mooresville, N.C., Brent Braun of Winamac, Drew Braun of Belleair Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren: Jacob Forker, Brittney Braun, Nathan Diaz, Alison Diaz, Quentin Haley, Justin Haley, Caitlin Haley, Brady Braun; her special friend, Michael Galbreath, and her beloved dog and travel companion, Miso. Lawrence Joseph Perry, Sr., 90, of 5276 East 200 South, Kewanna, Ind., passed away at 7:40 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2008, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac, Ind.
He was born Dec. 16, 1917, in Pulaski County, Ind., to Leujay Perry and Bertha (Lebold) Perry, who preceded him in death.
He was raised in Harrison Township, Pulaski County and attended school in Harrison Township, where he later made his home. On Nov. 3, 1942, he married Mary Jane (Brucker) Perry at St. Anne’s Church in Monterey, Ind., who survives him.
He was a successful and hardworking farmer for 31 years on a farm that has been in the family name for 90 years. Lawrence designed and helped build his home and all his farm buildings.
Lawrence was a foreman for the Indiana Department of Transportation from 1969 to 1978 after retiring from farming. For four years he was Harrison Township trustee.
He enjoyed and made many family trips to the western states, particularly the Rocky Mountain area. Many family fishing trips were made to Minnesota with his father and later with his children.
He and his wife owned Maple Corner Antiques and exhibited at many in-state and out-of-state antique shows. They particularly enjoyed fine antique china and primitives.
Lawrence and his wife were active members of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kewanna, Ind. and are members of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Winamac, Ind., where he was a past member of the Parish Council.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by seven children, James [Mary Gudas] Perry of Piqua, Ohio, Rosemary [Stephen] Perry-Hessong of West Lafayette, Ind., Albert [Joyce Matteson] Perry of Evansville, Ind., Michael “Mick” Perry, Sr. of Winamac, Ind., Marilyn [Duane] Galbreath of Vonore, Tenn., Kathleen [James] Weidner of Salem, Ill., and Jane [Ron] Becker of Zionsville, Ind.; 20 grandchildren, Mary Eileen Miller, Lawrence Joseph Perry III, Christine Gladden, Theresa Whalen, Wayne Perry, Diana Perry, Michelle Perry, Michael Yoder, Lesly Norris, Christopher Perry, John Perry, Jennifer Gilliam, Stephanie Lemberis, Michael Perry Jr., Duane Galbreath Jr., Allison Galbreath, Lydia Weidner, Jack Weidner, Hannah Becker and Erica Becker; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two sisters, Anna Parcel of Winamac, Ind. and Theresa [Lloyd] Banks of Culver, Ind.
He was preceded in death by one son, Lawrence Joseph Perry Jr.; one grandson, Mark Perry; three sisters, Viola [Eugene] Smith, Mabel [Robert] Cecrle, Helen [Isadore] Crist; and one brother, Charles Perry.
Visitation was be held Sunday, July 27 from 3 to 8 p.m. EDT at Frain Mortuary, Winamac, Ind. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 28 at 10:30 a.m. EDT at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Winamac, Ind. Burial followed in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Winamac, Ind.
A Scriptural Wake Service was held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Frain Mortuary.

October 6, 1934 - July 8, 2008 Barbara A. Simonin, 73, of 492 East 13th Street, Winamac, died July 8, 2008 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. She was born October 6, 1934, in Rensselaer, the daughter of Eugene and Bernice Walker Ballard. On June 19, 1989, in Wabash, she married Steven M. Simonin. He survives. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Francesville. She was retired from Kewanna Metal Specialities in Kewanna. She formerly was employed at the Ben Franklin Store in Winamac. She lived in Winamac most of her life and was formerly of Monticello. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, motorcycle riding and shopping. She loved to attend yard sales. Survivors include: her husband, Steven M. Simonin of Winamac; two daughters: Sharon Edison of Goodland, Ind., Rosemary Budd of Rantoul, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Kimberly [Randy] Cooper of Mooresville, Ind.; 16 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Shell of South Bend. She was preceded in death by: her father, Eugene Ballard; her mother, Bernice Walker Ballard; two sons: Raymond Budd, Richard Budd; a great granddaughter, Brittney Budd Hurley; four sisters; six brothers. Funeral services were held at Frain Mortuary in Winamac on July 12, 2008, with Pastor James Ketchen officiating. Burial took place in the Winamac Cemetery in Winamac. December 31, 1913 - July 10, 2008 Mary R. “G.G.” Cargel, 94, of 4784 W 500 N, Winamac, died July 10, 2008 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. She was born December 31, 1913, in Hadley, Mass., the daughter of Joseph and Rosalie Chrusciel Kielec. On Nov. 28, 1935, in Hadley, Mass., she married Robert Allen Cargel. He died on Oct. 30, 1985. She moved to Winamac in 1980, coming from Agawam, Mass. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers, Winamac. She loved tatting, crocheting and sewing. Survivors include: her daughter, Jeanette M. [Floyd] Podell of Winamac; her son, Robert A. [Marsha] Cargel Jr. of Tampa, Fla.; two granddaughters: Annette [Jeff] Dixon of Calico Rock, Ark., Cheryl [Michael] McGovern of Winamac; a grandson, Justin Cargel of Tampa, Fla.; a great granddaughter, Stefanie McGovern of Winamac; her great grandson, Quinn McGovern of Winamac. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Robert Allen Cargel; her father, Joseph Kielec; her mother, Rosalie Chrusciel Kielec; a grandson, Ted Podell. Oct. 7, 1930 – July 8, 2008 Dale T. Rehm, 77, of Ossian, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Born in Union Mills on Oct. 7, 1930, he married Marjorye L. Baylor; she survives. Mr. Rehm served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked at NIPSCO for 38 years, retiring in 1990. Other surviving relatives include four sons: Douglas Rehm of Bluffton, Duane Rehm of Mira Loma, Calif., Dean Rehm of Phoenix, Ariz., and David Rehm of Calif. Also surviving are five grandchildren. Private family services will be at a later date. Burial is at Lindenwood Cemetery. Klaehn, Fahl and Melton Funeral Home at 6424 Winchester Road in Fort Wayne is in charge of arrangements. My family used to live in Winamac and work there too, and is still my home town. Just wanted to let some old friends that knew my father of his passing.

August 23, 1950 - July 7, 2008 Marshall R. Fagner, 57, of 1331 E 50 S, Winamac, died July 7, 2008 at his residence in Winamac. He was born August 23, 1950, in Winamac, the son of Russell and Annabelle Pennington Fagner. On July 28, 1973 in Ripley Gospel Chapel, he was married to Annamarie Ritter. He was employed as an assistant engineer for the Indiana State Highway Dept. Marshall was a member of the Bethel Bible Church. He enjoyed soccer and was a volunteer coach for many years. Marshall went on several mission trips to Ecuador for his church. He worked with the youth group at the church for many years. Marshall enjoyed watching birds and raising hostas. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Survivors include: his wife, Annamarie Ritter Fagner of Winamac; four sons: Brian [Jennifer] Fagner of Burnettsville, Jeremy [Michelle] Fagner of Kokomo, Chance [Nikki] Fagner of Winamac, Zeb [Lindsey] Fagner of Winamac; four grandchildren: Rae Ann Fagner, Cash Fagner, Korben Fagner, Allison Fagner. He was preceded in death by: his father, Russell Orville Fagner; his mother, Annabelle Mae Pennington Fagner; a brother, Morris L. Fagner. July 14, 1927 - July 12, 2008 Marilyn Capper Heinsen, 80, of 471 N 48 E, Winamac, died July 12, 2008 at Hickory Creek at Winamac in Winamac. She was born July 14, 1927, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of John Sheville Capper Jr. and Romaine Tiffany Capper.
On Nov. 15, 1968, in Kokomo, she married Paul Bradford Heinsen. He survives.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Punta Gorda, Fla., and the American Contract Bridge League. She was a native of Star City and had lived in Winamac, Knox, and Kokomo and had been a resident of Punta Gorda, Fla. She had a degree in Interior Design from Ivy Tech State College in Kokomo and enjoyed interior decorating. She also was a gourmet cook and loved playing duplicate bridge.
Survivors include: her husband, Dr. Paul Bradford Heinsen, retired Veterinarian of Winamac; three sons: Mark Fritz of Richmond, Va., Mac Fritz of Indianapolis, Mat Fritz of Carmel; a daughter, Cathie Fritz of Birmingham, Mich.; a stepson, Dr. Charles Edward Heinsen M.D. of Winamac; two stepdaughters: Susan Fix of South Miami, Fla., Nancy Ann Munson of Danville, Calif.; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two sisters: Virginia Kinsel of Rochester, Betty Ley of Sarasota, Fla.; a brother, Thomas Capper of Star City.
She was preceded in death by: her father, John Sheville Capper Jr.; her mother, Romaine Tiffany Capper; a daughter, Connie Dust; a brother, John “Jack” Capper III.
A private family memorial service was held Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac, with Rev. Ron Lewellen officiating. Burial took place in the McKinley Memorial Gardens, Winamac.

March 24, 1942 - July 20, 2008 Robert W. Kirk, 66, of 2730 E 600 N, Monterey, died July 20, 2008 at Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. He was born March 24, 1942, in Louisville, Ky., the son of William and Elsie Steff Kirk.
On August 24, 1967 in Hammond, he married Marie Tesseman. Marie died on February 3, 2003.
Robert was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Knox. He worked as a machinist at Winamac Coil Spring in Kewanna. Robert enjoyed playing guitar, singing, fishing and gardening. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed joking and kidding with friends and family. Robert will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
Survivors include: six daughters: Katherine [Arthur] Navarrete of Midland, Texas, Glenda F. Kirk of Owensboro, Ky., Sharon Renee [ Kevin] Schlemmer of Owensboro, Ky., Synthia Marie [Gary] Clingler of Rochester, Candy Lyn [Gary] Weaver of Monterey, Bobbie Kaye [Tony] Edmondson of Rochester; two sons: Thomas William Chumley of Monterey, James Theodore [Pamela] Chumley of Winamac; two brothers: Charles Kirk of Hobart, David Wayne [Sharon] Kirk of Murray, Ky.; two sisters: Brenda [Bob] Conley of Morocco, Ind., Sheila [Kenny] Richardson of Hawesville, Ky.; 27 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Marie Tesseman Kirk; his father, William Curtis Kirk, his mother, Elsie Aline Steff Kirk; a brother, David Lee Kirk; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren.

May 22, 1930 - July 15, 2008 Opal Clark, 78, of 211 South Madison Street, Medaryville, died July 15, 2008 at her residence in Medaryville.
She was born May 22, 1930, in Waldo, Ky., the daughter of Floyd and Goldie Wireman Wireman. On January 15, 1955 in North Judson, she was married to Otto Joseph Clark Jr. He died on June 2, 2001.
She attended the Medaryville Assembly of God Church. She lived most of her life in Medaryville. She retired from the Medaryville Garment Factory. She loved to travel and enjoyed taking pictures.
Survivors include: two sons: Gary J. September 9, 1917 – July 20, 2008 Donna R. (Gibbs) Lemke, 90, 507 N George St, North Judson, died July 20, 2008 at her residence. She was born September 9, 1917, the daughter of Phillip and Bertha (Henning) Gibbs.
On October 30, 1937 in North Judson, she married William A. Lemke. He survives.
Donna worked at the former Pell’s Sweet Shop and N.J.S.P. High School Cafeteria. She was a 70 year member of the North Judson United Methodist Church and was a member of the Women’s Club and other church groups. She also taught Sunday school and liked to rock the babies and sing.
Survivors include: her husband, William A. Lemke of North Judson; four daughters: Shirley [Jerry] Fingerhut of North Judson, Dorothy [Dale] Grube of North Judson, Gail [Greg] Hildebrandt of Winamac, Carol [Ron] Mee of Beaumont, Calf.; a son, Don [Deb] Lemke of Albequerque, N.M.; a sister, Marian [Harold] Lainhart of South Bend; a brother, Ralph [Evelyn] Gibbs of Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her father, Phillip Gibbs; her mother, Bertha Gibbs; a sister, Esther Kelley; two great granddaughters.
Visitation will be at O’Donnell Funeral Home in North Judson on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. CT and after 1:00 p.m. CT Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at the church. Funeral services will be at the United Methodist Church in North Judson on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. CT, with Rev. David Mullens officiating. Burial will take place at the Highland Cemetery in North Judson.

Marjorie Marie Gorby, 83, of 515 E. 13th St., Winamac died July 27, 2008 at Hickory Creek at Winamac. She was born March 7, 1925 in Sullivan, Ind., the daughter of Cecil and Kathryn Reed Dale.
On June 26, 1945, in Terre Haute she married Howard Glenn Gorby. He died June 19, 1983.
She lived in Pulaski County since 1969, coming from Gary. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include: two sons: Dennis Leo [Edith] Gorby of Valparaiso, Steve [Roxanne] Gorby of Winamac; four daughters: Karen [Ronny] Rushing of Winamac, Tina Bierrum of Winamac, Nancy [Jeff] Kee of Kenosha, Wis., Susan [Don] Howe of Winamac; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her father, Cecil Dale; her mother, Kathryn Reed Dale; her husband, Howard Glenn Gorby; a daughter, Linda Gorby; four brothers; one sister.

Virginia Lee Michels, 63, of Kewanna, died July 17, 2008 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital. She was born November 29, 1944 in Illinois, the daughter of the late Francis and Margaret (Clealand) Michels.
Virginia was a homemaker who loved to read and crochet, and also enjoyed books on tape and movies.
Survivors include: three daughters: Gustave F. Salyer [Todd Kuhn] of Monterey, Lela [Gregory] Ellinger of Kewanna, Thelmarae Wieringa [Paul Kelley] of Park Forest, Ill.; one son, Charles F. [Judy] Stirk of Lake Village, Ind.; a brother, Michael Michels; a brother-in-law, Kurt Garicz; seventeen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: two sisters: Margaret Garicz, Geraldine Lilley; a sister-in-law, Sharon Michels; a granddaughter; Aubree Jean Townsend.

Mary Elizabeth Balciunas, 84, of 8456 Saratoga Drive, Lambertville, Mich. formerly of Winamac, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 21, 2008 at St. Anne Mercy Hospital in Toledo, Ohio. She was born August 30, 1923, in Crookston, Minn., the daughter of Harry and Adelaid (Street) Chase.
On June 2, 1943, in Chicago, she married Vytol “Vito” Balciunas. He died on December 10, 1967.
Mary was a charter member of First Baptist Church in Winamac. She and her husband had operated a grocery in Ripley. She had worked at the Dairy Barn, Ace Hardware, and the Coast-to-Coast Hardware in Winamac. Mary enjoyed shopping, reading and faithfully served her church through its outreach ministries. One of her favorites was missions. Because of her godly life, as Proverbs 31 teaches, her children truly rise up and call her blessed.
Survivors include: two daughters: Sandra [Mark] Shedrow of Winamac, Joanne [Demetrius] Anagnostu of Lambertville, Mich.; a grandson, Geoffrey Chandler; five granddaughters: Stacey Kosiek, Ashley Shedrow, Afton Anagnostu, Summer Anagnostu,
Lacey Anagnostu; two sisters: Dorothy Gengler of St. Louis, Mo., Doris Billings of Derkes, Ark. She was preceded in death by: her father, Harry Sheff Chase; her mother, Adelaid (Street) Chase; her husband, Vytol “Vito” J. David Angelo Smith, 38, of 200 Brazoswood, Apt. 2723, Clute, Texas died June 2, 2008 in his residence. He was born November 1, 1969, in Suffolk, Va., the son of Billy and Lilly Parker Smith.
Angelo was a Winamac resident for 28 years. He was a graduate of Winamac High School. In high school he played football and was a wrestler. Angelo was a member of the Pro Bass Club. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. Angelo loved spending time with his children and his nieces and nephews. Angelo moved to Texas to work construction jobs.
Survivors include: two daughters: Courtney Smith of Ohio, Kylie Martin, Rochester; a son, Ashton Smith of Ohio; three sisters: Doris H. Moss of Wheatland, Ind., Bea I. Braun of Winamac, Wiona L. Dyke of Winamac, two brothers: William G. Smith, Suffolk, Va.,
Millard R. Smith, Star City. He was preceded in death by: his father, Billy Gene Smith; his mother, Lilly Parker Smith; a brother, Albert Lewis Smith.

Oct. 4, 1934 - July 29, 2008 Services for Carole M. Hamman, 73 of Kewanna were held 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 1, 2008 at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Homes, Kewanna Chapel.
She died at 1:48 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Hickory Creek Healthcare Center in Winamac.
Born October 4, 1934 in Winamac, she was the daughter of the late Harry Dee and Ada Mae (Adams) Harris. On May 16, 1953 in Kewanna, she was married to Ron E. Hamman, he survives.
She was a 1952 Kewanna High School graduate, a member of Kewanna United Methodist Church, Carole was also an avid reader who loved spending time with family and friends.
She retired after 43 years from Winamac Coil Spring in Kewanna.
Survivors include her husband, Ron E. Hamman of Kewanna, one son, Scott Hamman and wife Elena of Viera, Florida, one daughter, Terri L. Lynch and husband Ed of Winamac, 10 grandchildren, Kyle, Eddie, Shannon, Heather, Sean, Brent, Nikki, Melissa, Amanda and Casandra, and eight great grandchildren, Brayden, Kamryn, Rylan, Maddox, Ashlee, Blake, Alex, and Christian. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Carole was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Michael Hamman, and one brother, William Harris.
Pastor Steve McPeek officiated at the service and burial was at Citizens I.O.O.F. cemetery in Kewanna at a later date.

Molly Jade Fenske-Norris was born and called to heaven on August 3, 2008. Molly is the child of Melinda “Mindy” Fenske and Kyle Norris.
Molly is greatly loved and will be missed by her grandparents, Jeff and Brenda Fenske and Craig and Terri Norris, all of Loveland, Co.; her Aunt Misty [Brian] Dies of Queen Creek, Ariz.; her Uncle Tim Fenske; her Uncle Seth Fenske; and her Aunt Amanda (Mandy) Fenske (Mindy’s twin sister) all of Loveland. She will also be missed by her great-grandparents, James and Alma Frazier of North Judson; Robert and Jean Dixon of Star City; Don and Carolyn Fenske of Loveland; Homer and Lynn Norris of Fort Collins, Co.; Hershey and Lori Lee Maxwell, Kinsley, Kan. Molly was the first great-great-grandchild of Jim and Maryan Brock of Kinsley, Kan. Molly also has three cousins: Emma and Katy Dies of Queen Creek, Ariz; and Brooklyn Fenske of Windsor. Molly’s funeral will be Saturday at 9 a.m. at Viegut Funeral Home with Pastor Rose Pauley of Grace Place Church of Berthoud/Loveland. Burial will follow at Loveland Burial Park. Molly may be gone, but a reminder of her life occurs every morning as the sun rises. On the morning of Molly’s birth, Mindy and Kyle watched a sunrise more beautiful and more colorful than either of them had ever seen before and they knew right away it was Molly finger-painting in heaven with Jesus! March 22, 1913 - August 15, 2008 Fred C. Gast, 95, of Logansport, died August 15, 2008, at Logansport Memorial Hospital. He was born March 22, 1913, in Thornhope, the son of John Carl and Fredericka August Springborn Gast.
On December 7, 1933, in Star City, he was married to Dorothy M. Hiatt, who survives. They would have celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary this coming December 7, 2008.
Through the years, he enjoyed fishing trips to Wisconsin, winters in Daytona Beach, Florida, and summers at Lake Bruce. Most of all, he treasured his life-long friendship with the men of the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was a proud member of that fraternity for 37 years, retiring from the railroad in 1977. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers, Tipton Lodge #33 F&AM, of which he was a 50 year member, First United Methodist Church, Logansport Eagles and an avid White Sox fan.
Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy M. Hiatt; a daughter, Shirley C. Thomas of Logansport; two grandsons: Brad Gast of Culver, Rob Gast of Rochester; four great-grandchildren: Devin Gast of Culver, Chandler Gast of Culver, Cameron Gast of Rochester, Courtney Gast of Rochester. He was preceded in death by: two sons: Robert Gast, Marvin Gast; one granddaughter, Cheryl Ann Thomas; one son-in-law, James Thomas; one daughter-in-law, Sue Gast; one brother, Louis Gast; his father, John Carl Gast; his mother, Fredericka August Springborn Gast; his father-in-law, Archie M. Hiatt; his mother-in-law, Sadie Hiatt.

September 3, 1923 - August 14, 2008 Services for Virgil E. Fauser, 84 of Lake Bruce, formerly of Dyer will be held at 11 a.m. E.S.T. Monday, August 18, 2008 at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, Kewanna Chapel.
He passed away at 8:20 p.m., Thursday, August 14, 2008 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born September 3, 1923 in Hammond, he was the son of the late Earl and Matilda Louise (Doepping) Fauser. On October 19, 1942 he was married to Ruby J. Burgess; she survives.
Virgil grew up on Beal Street in Hammond where he graduated eighth grade from St. Paul Lutheran School and was a 1941 graduate of Hammond Tech High School. He was a self-employed carpenter who was a 60 year member of the Carpenters Local Union #599, in Hammond. He attended Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Lake Bruce and Free Methodist Church in Griffith.
Virgil enjoyed relaxing on the lake, building bird houses, fishing and playing Pinochle. At Christmas, he loved playing Santa Claus for his family and friends. Before retiring, Virgil and Ruby enjoyed traveling during the winter to places such as Hawaii and Spain.
Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Ruby J. Fauser, Lake Bruce; one son, James Fauser and his wife, Mercedes, of Dyer; two daughters, Betty Burton and her husband, Thomas of Lowell and Sharon Johnston and her husband, Gregory of Dyer; one sister, Vernetta White of Hammond; four grandchildren, Maria Fuentes and her husband Geraldo, Frank Fauser and his wife, Karen, Eric Burton and his wife, Hope and Rachelle Blumenthal and her husband, Kenneth; ten great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

May 23, 1922 - August 16, 2008 Homer Leroy “Peanie” Crissinger, 86, of 342 East Galbreath Drive, Winamac died August 16, 2008 at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born May 23, 1922, in Headlee, the son of James and Cordelia Hall Crissinger.
On June 20, 1942 in Headlee, Ind., he married Alice Eileen White. Eileen died on October 22, 1975. On January 21, 1978 in Winamac, he married Marilyn Eshelman Poulos. Marilyn died on September 16, 2000.
He was a retired farmer. He served on the board of directors of Pulaski Human Services. Peanie served as Monroe township trustee for two terms. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed hunting mushrooms and driving through the countryside looking at crops. Peanie will be remembered for his great sense of humor.
Survivors include: a daughter, Lynn [Robert] Kaply of LaCrosse; a son, David [Marcy] Crissinger of Star City; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Minona “Noan” [Joe] Fox of Star City, Mary V. Sell of Lafayette, Ethel Stanley [Harry] Robinson of Royal Center. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Alice Eileen White Crissinger; his second wife, Marilyn Eshelman Poulos Crissinger; his father, James Edward Crissinger; his mother, Cordelia H. Hall Crissinger; a daughter, Becky A. Crissinger; a son, Carl L. Crissinger; three brothers: Ralph Crissinger, George Crissinger, Bill Crissinger.

Nellie L. Bosley, 94, of 624 East 13th St., Winamac died August 9, 2008 at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac. She was born February 5, 1914, in Winamac, to Lee and Lillie Cloud Goble.
In 1944 she married Clarles Leas. He died in 1946. She then married William Bosley in 1958. He died in 1990.
She lived most of her adult life in Hammond, returning to Winamac in 1991. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Hammond, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the church choir. She also was a member of the Nazarene World Missions. She prayed for each member of her family by name daily. She enjoyed cooking, fishing and gardening.
Survivors include: a brother, Forrest C. Goble of Winamac; a sister, Helen Stigall of Winamac; a granddaughter, Rhonda Forrester of Tenn.; two grandsons, Keith Leas of Va,
Charles Leas of Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Jane Leas of Tenn.; several great-grandchildren;
several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her father, Lee Goble; her mother, Lillie Cloud Goble; her first husband, Clarles Leas; her second husband, William Bosley; two sons, Elwyn Leas, Lemoyne Leas; a sister, Feorl Bazan; two brothers, Kenneth Cole Goble, Armond Goble.
Private services were held in Paul’s Chapel Church in Pulaski on August 14, 2008 with Pastor Denny Wilson officiating. Burial took place in the Paul’s Chapel Cemetery in Winamac.

On April 21, 1945, in Amarillo, Texas, she was married to Capt. Charles H. Fisher. He died on November 15, 1990. She was a former Winamac resident before moving to Knoxville and Dandridge, Tenn. She was a member of the Methodist Church and was a former Avon Representative. Survivors include: four sister-in-laws: Madaline [Richard] Sommers of Star City, Kathryn [Leroy] Moore of Iowa, Barbara Fisher of Va., Yvonna Nacke of Swayzee, Ind.; a brother-in-law, Donald [Olive] Fisher of Star City; several nieces and nephews. She passed away Monday, August 25, 2008 at her residence. Born April 4, 1913 in Thornhope, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Charlotte (Buck) Shidler. She was married on April 28, 1950 in Star City to Donald “Ed” E. Fisher, who survives. Mrs. Fisher formerly owned and operated Oak Grove Restaurant in Star City. She was a member of the Star City United Methodist Church, VFW #1728 Ladies Auxiliary, Winamac and an associate member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Pulaski Memorial Hospital. Also surviving are two daughters, Pamela Sue Olson, Valparaiso and Jane Ann Scheffer, Winamac; two sons, Donald E. Fisher, Jr. and Jerry Mays, both of Star City; 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Fisher was preceded in death by one daughter, one son, one sister and six brothers. Pastor Ron Mabry officiated at the service. Burial was at Star City West Cemetery.
