Ronald D. Elston
September 10, 1913 - December 26, 2007
Ronald D. Elston, 94 of Valparaiso, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2007.
He was born September 10, 1913 in Monon the son of Edward and Elsie Faye (Strong) Elston, who preceded him in death.
Ron was a bearing grinder at McGill Manufacturing in Valparaiso for 18 years and the owner and operator of his own painting and shampooing business. He was a member of Central Christian Church, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend for over 50 years, and the Porter Lodge 137 Free and Accepted Masons. Ronald and Bessie were founding members of Central Christian Church. Before coming to Valparaiso, he farmed in Pulaski County.
On Feb. 6, 1937 in Winamac, he married Bessie B. Hettinger, they were married for 63 years. She preceded him in death August 27, 2000.
Surviving is a son Charles E. (Doris) Elston of Plainfield, two daughters, Laura E (Raleigh) Batty of Prescott Valley, Ariz. and Shirley Ann (James) Williams of Valparaiso, 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, four brothers Forrest Elston of Texas, William Elston of Lafayette, Marvin Elston of Chicago, and Carl
Elston Florida and two sisters, Ruth Stoll of Monon and Patricia Bunkowfst-Kocher of Lowell. Five brothers also preceded him in death.
Funeral Services were, Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007 at Bartholomew Funeral Home, Pastor Don Thornton officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery,
Valparaiso. Visitation was Friday at Bartholomew Funeral Home with Masonic Services at 7 p.m.

Charles W. "Bill" Donathen

Services for Charles W. "Bill" Donathen, 81, Kewanna, were held at the Kewanna Church of Christ, Thursday, January 3 at 11 a.m.
Bill passed away in the company of loved ones Sunday, December 30, 2007 at Pulaski Health Care Center, Winamac.
Born February 1, 1926 in Mishawaka, he was the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Emmans) Donathen. Bill was married to Eileen D. Hollis on November 9, 1947. She preceded him in death March 30, 2006.
Bill was a United States Navy veteran serving in WWII. He was employed with Bendix in South Bend, for over 30 years. He also farmed throughout his lifetime.
Bill was a member and Elder of the Kewanna Church of Christ. He was a 1944 Kewanna H.S. graduate where he played basketball and was a member of many organizations including Order of Eastern Star, Chapter #70, Rochester and was former Worthy Patron of the Kewanna Chapter; member U.A.W. South Bend Local and Grange Organization. He was a past Master of the Kewanna Masonic Lodge, and received his 32nd degree in Scottish Rite, and continued to be a faithful member of the Rochester F & AM #79 after they merged. Bill was an active Republican Precinct Committeeman and former member of Union Township/ Kewanna School Board. He was a former E.M.T. and was one of the first drivers for the Kewanna E.M.S.
Bill and Eileen spent 17 winters in Florida. They met new friends and had great times. They shared these years with their lifelong friends, Bill and Marilyn Moon. Bill and Eileen bowled as couples. Bill was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Colts, baseball and golf. He won the "Best Beard" contest at the Kewanna Bi-Centennial.
Vacations were important to Bill and his family. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed camping with friends. Bill and Eileen enjoyed many travels with Dream Tours.
Family was the most important thing to Bill as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved family gatherings, and was devoted to proudly attending the various activities of his children and grandchildren.
Bill is survived by one daughter, Susan and her husband Kenneth Hamman, of Winamac; two sons, Larry Donathen and his wife, Joyce, of Franklin and Jon Donathen and his wife, Diana, of Grass Creek; five grandchildren: Amy and Douglas Smith, Amanda Donathen, Alexander and Matthew Donathen; two great-grandchildren: Andriana Smith and Aidan Smith; one brother, Robert Engle and his wife, Barbara; sister-in-law, Violet Troutman; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding in death are two sisters: JoAnn and Sally; his mother, father, and step-father.
Pastors Scott Meneely and William Moon will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Citizens I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Kewanna, where full military rites will be conducted.
Calling was Wednesday, January 2 at the Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, Kewanna, with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m.

E. Wayne Strasser

E. Wayne Strasser, 90, of 8183 Heyward Drive, Indianapolis, died on January 9, 2008 at Miller's Senior Living Community in Indianapolis. Wayne was born July 10, 1917 in Star City, the son of Oscar and Verda Davis Strasser.
On December 2, 1939 in Winamac he married Mary Ann Gross. She died May 19, 1999.
Wayne served in the US Army as a Sergeant during WWII. He retired from the US Postal Service after 40 years as a mail carrier out of the Winamac Post Office. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. Wayne's favorite pastimes were spending time with family and friends, especially with his dog Snickers.
Survivors include: two daughters: Jackie A.[Colin] McCulloch of Indianapolis, and Andrea Lynn [Joe] Hayes of Indianapolis; three sisters: Margaret [Harold] O'Blenis of South Bend, Violet [Chuck] Wolfram of Lakeville, Carol Mae [Bob] Way of Clearwater, Fla.; six step-grandchildren; nine step-great grandchildren; and one step great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by: his father, Oscar E. Strasser; his mother, Verda W. Davis Strasser; his wife, Mary Ann Gross Strasser; and two brothers: Richard "Barney" Strasser and Robert Strasser.
Visitation will be 3-7 pm EST on January 18, 2008 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Services will be held at 11 am EST on January 19, 2008 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Winamac, with Rev. Martin Sandhage officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Peter's Cemetery in Winamac, IN.

Betty J. Wilson Zehner

Betty J. Wilson Zehner, 73, of 6123 N 200 E of Monterey, died January 11, 2008 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. She was born November 17, 1934, in Rochester, the daughter of Thomas and Ruth Hosmer Wilson.
She was a lifelong resident of Monterey. She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, Monterey. She was also a member of the Nurses Association. She was a former 4H Leader, Home Extension Club member, and the Monterey PTA. She was the co-founder of the Monterey "Birthday Group." She was a 1953 graduate of Monterey High School, and in 1956 she graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Gary.
She was a Registered Nurse for 51 years. She was one of the original nurses who helped open Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. For 30 of her 51 years of nursing she worked in the surgical area. She formerly worked at Starke Memorial Hospital in Knox, Miller's Merry Manor in Culver, Monterey Doctor's Clinic, and the old Woodlawn Hospital in Rochester. She retired in May of 2007 as the nurse at the Pulaski County Jail.
She was the instructor for the first EMT class held at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in the 1970's. She enjoyed her swimming pool in the summer and riding in her jitney. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, along with cooking and entertaining family and friends. She loved attending her grandchildren's activities.
Survivors include: three daughters: Tina Race of Rochester, Laurie [Russ] Zimmerman of Naperville, Ill., and Melissa [Stu] Neidlinger of Plymouth; four granddaughters: Christine Race of Warner Robins AFB, Ga, Jessica Zimmerman of Naperville, Ill., Trisha Neidlinger of Plymouth, and Danielle Race of Rochester; three grandsons: Thomas Race of Rochester, Adam Zimmerman of Naperville, Ill., and Trevor Neidlinger of Plymouth; a sister, Gladys [Wint] Hartman of Mesa, AZ; five nieces and nephews; seven great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by: her father, Thomas Wilson; her mother, Ruth Homser Wilson; and two sons: Thomas Zehner and Daniel Zehner.
Visitation will be 2-8 pm EST on January 15, 2008 at Frain Mortuary. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am EST Wednesday, January 16, 2008, in St. Anne's Catholic Church, Monterey, with Rev. Bert Woolson officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Anne's Cemetery, Monterey.

Shirley A. Shidler

Shirley A. Shidler, 75, of 135 North Harrison Street, Francesville, died January 10, 2008 at her residence. Shirley was born February 29, 1932 in North Judson, the daughter of Ezra I. and Rosa Loyd Jones.
On April 1, 1950 in Winamac she married John William Shidler. John died April 19, 1997.
Shirley retired in 1995 as a custodian at the West Central High School. She worked as the lunch cook at the Francesville IGA. Shirley attended the First Baptist Church in Francesville. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. Shirley also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include: three sons: Steve [Barb] Shidler of Francesville, William Shidler of Austin, TX, Eric [Lisa] Shidler of Renselaer; four daughters: Cindy Lowry of Francesville, Peggy Gutwein of Francesville, Melissa Daugherty of Francesville, Brenda [Doug] Fritz of Medaryville; a sister, Rosemary Anderson of Central Point, OR; 18 Grandchildren; 29 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her father, Ezra I. Jones; her mother, Rosa Loyd Jones, her husband, John William Shidler.
Visitation will be 3-8 pm EST on Jan. 13, 2008 at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville. Funeral Services will be held at the Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville, on Monday, January 14, 2008 at 10:30 am EST with Dennis Gutwein officiating. Burial will take place at Independence Cemetery in Medaryville.

Marlene Alba Rausch

Funeral services will be held at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at St. Edmond Catholic Church for Marlene Alba Rausch, 52, who passed away Monday, January 14, 2008 at her home the way she wanted it, surrounded by her loving family and friends. She is survived by her mother, Annabelle Alba; her husband of thirty-two years, Dr. Mosey Edward Rausch; two daughters, Jennifer and Lauren, Lauren's husband, William PochŽ; one sister, Linda Alba Russell and her husband, Lionel Russell; one niece, Theresa and her husband, Kenneth Matherne; and one nephew, Scott Russell.
Reverend Gary Schexnayder, Pastor of St. Michael Catholic Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Con-celebrants will be Reverend Tim Richard, Pastor of St. Edmond Catholic Church and Deacon Randy Hyde, Deacon Frank Cormier, and Deacon Paul Matte. Interment will be held in Fountain Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Marlene was born in New Orleans where she met her husband at age twenty, but was a resident of Lafayette for thirty-two years. She was an incredibly patriotic person while simultaneously remaining extremely proud of her Filipino heritage. Marlene was also a compassionate woman who had a lust for life, having very few regrets, supporting and nurturing her family and embracing all around her. Marlene had a love for nature and all of God's creatures, especially the mountains of Jackson, Wyoming and her dogs, Susie, Kaiser and Greta.
Marlene was an introspective person who kept a journal, which included passages dealing with the unconditional love she had for her family, her faith in Jesus, and the world she lived. Marlene had a keen eye for all of those things beautiful and interesting, especially fashion and art. Marlene taught those that surrounded her how to love, her strong lust and will for life exemplified that the human spirit will not be crushed by the tragedy of cancer.
Marlene battled brain cancer for over one and a half years but never abandoned her faith or trust in Jesus. She was witty and beautiful, even in her darkest moments. When Marlene walked in and out of a room, she was always remembered due to her radiant beauty and her friendly persona. Marlene will never leave our thoughts; her open mind and loving spirit will forever imprint our hearts.
She was preceded in death by her father, Nicanor Alba; and her nephew Lonnie Russell.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed Wednesday from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m. and continue Thursday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.
Pallbearers will be Scott Russell, Kenny Matherne, Seth Matherne, Larry Rausch, Lionel Russell, John O'Mearn, Christopher Barras, and Eloy Piacer. Honorary pallbearers will be William PochŽ, Jack Sharlow, Roland Talley, Dale Trahan, Mike Hillman, and Bill Charbonnet.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of her caregivers, friends, and neighbors who stood by her until the end. Emil A Krulik, 89, of North Judson, died January 15, 2008, at LaPorte Hospital. He was born October 2, 1918 in North Judson, the son of Frank P Krulik and Marie Surma.
On February 6, 1943 in Crown Point, he was married Doris Brady. She survives.
Survivors include: his wife, Doris Krulik of North Judson; three daughters: Alene [Art] Luedtke of Winamac, Betty [Jim] Demo of Wanatah, Cindy [Tim] DeArmond of Birmingham, Ala.; two sons: Jerry Krulik of North Judson, Tim [Jan} Krulik of North Judson; a sister, Irene Shidler of North Judson; a brother, Paul Krulik of Winamac; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his father, Frank P. Krulik, her mother, Marie Krulik, a son, Ronnie Krulik, two sisters: Marie Gielerak, Rose Roth; two brothers: Frank C. Krulik, Sr., Rudolph F. Krulik, two son-in-laws: Carol Podell, Greg Hott.
Funeral services were held at O'Donnell Funeral Home in North Judson on January 21, 2008, with Rev. Michael Boyd officiating. Burial took place in Highland Cemetery in North Judson.
Jo Ann (Lawrence) Shine
June 19, 1937 - December 30, 2007
Jo Ann (Lawrence) Shine, 70, passed away on December 30, 2007 at her home at 34 Trafalgar Place in The Woodlands, Texas. She was born on June 19, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois and raised in Winamac, Indiana. She lived in Texas for many years. She married Richard Allen Shine on December 18, 1955, beginning fifty-two years of treasured marriage.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by adoptive parents, Lyle and Mildred Galbreath Lawrence; adoptive step-mother, Charlotte Lawrence; sister, Janet Lawrence Peverelle; and infant son, David Allen Shine.
In addition to her husband, Dick, she is survived by daughter, Jo Lynn Ritter, and son-in-law, Michael, of Conroe, Texas; son, Daniel Richard Shine, and daughter-in-law, Emily, of Liberty Hill, Texas; and granddaughters, Kayla Jo Ritter, Breanna Michelle Ritter, and Melissa Lynn Shine.
Jo Ann was an avid quilter, enjoyed Bible study, and relished the outdoors. Her compassion for others will long be remembered. Her life was a blessing, her faith an inspiration, and her memory a consolation. Jesus Christ was her joy and her strength.
A memorial service was held on January 6, 2008 at Faith Bible Church in The Woodlands, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the charity of your choice.
Martha Louise Cadwalader
February 6, 1917 - January 20, 2008
Martha Louise Cadwalader, 90, a Francesville resident the past 15 years, formerly of Valparaiso, passed away Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008 at Parkview Haven in Francesville. She was born Feb. 6, 1917 in Benton County, Ind., the daughter of William and Clara (Schladenhoffen) Ringger. She graduated from Francesville High School and then attended business college. She worked one year as an office manager for an oil company in Hammond, then operated a wholesale egg distribution business with her husband. In 1960 they began a Christmas tree farm in Valparaiso that they continued until 1987. Martha was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in LaCrosse.
On May 6, 1937 she married Enos Cadwalader who preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 1987. Survivors include their daughter, Dr. Bonnie Buchele (Bruce Hopkins) of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren: Amy Buchele Ash of Lawrence, Kan., Bradley Paul Buchele of Kansas City, Mo.; two great-granddaughters: Isabel Marie Ash and Sadie Helen Ash; and one sister-in-law, Martha Ellen Ringger of Arkansas. Martha was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, William Ringger.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church in LaCrosse, ministers of the church officiating with burial to follow at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery. Lauramay Koebcke

Lauramay Koebcke, 89, of 7082 W 100 S, Kewanna, died January 19, 2008 at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. She was born September 24, 1918, in Redkey, Ind., the daughter of Lewis C. and Sylvia Berrier Wandrey.
On December 17, 1938 in Valparaiso, she married Russell Edward Koebcke. Russell died August 4, 2005.
Lauramay was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Winamac and a member of the women's guild and the alter guild of the church. She enjoyed playing cards, reading and crocheting. Lauramay enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include: a daughter, Colleen M. [Delbert] May of Rochester; two sons: Larry L. Koebcke of Valparaiso, and Walter L. [Donna J.] Koebcke of Kewanna; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Clara Wandrey Hahne of Tempe, Ariz., Louise Wandrey Thompson of Slater, Iowa, and Catherine Wandrey Ash of Winamac.
She was preceded in death by: her father, Lewis C. Wandrey; her mother, Sylvia Berrier Wandrey; her husband, Russell Edward Koebcke; and three sisters: Esther Wandrey Hahne, Betty Wandrey, Margaret Wandrey.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. EST Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Frain Mortuary and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. EST Thursday, January 24, 2008, in St. Luke Lutheran Church, Winamac, with Pastor Carl Fitchett officiating. Burial will take place in the Bruce Lake Cemetery located at Lake Bruce.

Mabel Irene Peck

Mabel Irene Peck, 90, of 1465 S. Wolf Lane, Winamac, died January 15, 2008, at Starke Memorial Hospital in Knox. She was born October 9, 1917, in Michigan City, the daughter of Silas and Mabel Cowgill Craig.
On June 20, 1934 in LaPorte, she was married to Russell Peck, Sr. He died Dec. 6, 1981.
Mrs. Peck was formerly of Michigan City and had lived in Monterey and Star City for many years. She worked as a housekeeper. May she rest in peace. She will be sadly missed by all.
Survivors include: a son, Russell L. [Carole Sue] Peck, Jr. of Madison, Wis.; two daughters: Caroline Williams of Michigan City, Connie Buczkowski of Michigan City;
Several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several greatgreat grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by: her father, Silas Craig; her mother, Mabel Cowgill Craig; and her husband, Russell Peck, Sr.

Richard Devon Smith
January 15, 1930 - January, 2008
Richard Devon Smith, 78, departed this life on Tuesday, January 22, 2008, in Yuma, Arizona. He was born on January 15, 1930, in Francesville, Indiana, and preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Sylvia Smith and sister Paulina Smith. Richard retired at age 45 and loved spending summers in Winamac, Indiana, and wintering in Yuma, Arizona. Winamac was home for many years to Richard and Clara Louise, his loving wife of 54 years. They owned and operated the Indian Head Restaurant in Winamac from 1964 to 1976 and owned the Indian Head Motel which they built in 1968. Richard loved to soar. He had his pilot's license since age 16 and flew his own plane for his and his family's pleasure. Fishing was also a passion, as he and Clara fished South Padre Island for 15 winters.
Richard is survived by wife, Clara Louise; sons: Mikel J. Smith and wife, Jo Kyle, of Yuma, Ariz.; Steven D. Smith of London, England; three grandchildren: Lt. Kelly Jo Smith and husband, Irven, of Baltimore, Md.; Earl D. Smith and Jill, of Bel Air, Maryland; Eric M. Smith of Franklin, Ohio; and one great granddaughter, Magdalena Rose Smith of Bel Air, Maryland. His surviving sisters are Arlene Gutwein and husband, Adam, of Medaryville; Phyllis Anderson and husband, Don, of Granbury, Texas; Madeleine Gutwein and husband, Fred, of Francesville, and Diane Culp and husband, James, of Francesville; and a brother, Ronald Smith of Lafayette.
His laughter and love for life will be missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be held Monday January 28th, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with funeral services following at 2 p.m. at Kammann Mortuary 795 W. 28th St., Yuma, Arizona.
Memory of life celebration will take place at a later date in Winamac.
Lovetta A. Gilman
March 19, 1921 - January 25, 2008
Lovetta Allien Gilman, 86, of 5514 East 450 South, Star City, died January 25, 2008, at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac. She was born March 19, 1921, in Brook, Ind., the daughter of Clarence and Jesse Dowell Palmer.
On January 1, 1940 in Brook, Ind., she married William Keith Gilman. Mr. Gilman died on October 21, 1989.
She was a member of the Star City United Methodist Church and was a past president of the United Methodist Women. Lovetta was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Women's Book Club and served on the board of PARC in Winamac. She was an avid reader, and euchre player. Lovetta enjoyed spending time with her family.

Patrick Joel Garrett, age 39, of Lafayette, formerly of Winamac, died at 12:55 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24 at Seton Specialty Hospital in Lafayette.
He was born Aug. 4, 1968 born to Ronald Ward and Donna Lee [Deeming] Garrett, who both survive.
He is survived by his father, Ronald Ward Garrett of Royal Center, his mother, Donna Lee Deeming, his step-mother, Nelda Marie Garrett, his brother, Scott William (Marilyn) Garrett, a niece, Molly L. Garrett, and step-sister, Barbara E. Pugh, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his brother, Ronald Shawn Garrett, and an uncle, Leonard Ray Garrett.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Jan. 28 at Soller-Baker funeral home in Lafayette. Burial took place.

M. Ann Good, 66, of Grass Creek, died January 30, 2008, at her residence.
She was born November 20, 1941 in Kewanna, the daughter of Donald & Helen (Oliver) Hizer.
She was a 1959 graduate of Grass Creek High School, a graduate of Manchester College where she received a B.S. degree in 1971, and she was also a 1975 graduate of Indiana University where she earned her Masters degree in education. Ann was a Special Education teacher for Logansport Joint Services. She taught at Logansport, Peru, Kewanna, Caston, Winamac and for many years at Pioneer, retiring in 1999 after 28 years. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and also volunteered at Rochester Community Schools. Ann enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving include: one son, Brad R. [Kathy] Good of Rochester; one daughter, Kris K. Good of Indianapolis; one brother, Joe [Carol] Hizer of Kewanna; one sister, Jane Hizer of Rochester; four grandchildren: Cory, Casey, Maggie, and Libby Good all of Rochester; several nieces and nephews.

Charles Allen "Chuck" Simonin, 73, of 488 East 13th Street, Winamac, formerly of Francesville, died February 5, 2008 at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born December 14, 1934, in Talma., the son of Alvin and Evelyn (Harding) Simonin.
On Nov. 22, 1952, in Logansport, he married Iris A. Shidler. She survives.
Chuck was a former resident of Francesville for 45 years, moving to Winamac in 1995. He retired from NIPSCO in 1993 after 33 years of service as a certified welder. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Francesville. Other memberships included the Medaryville Masonic Lodge, a former member of the Medaryville Eastern Star, and Eagle's Lodge #2580, Winamac. He was a volunteer with the Fulton County Civil Defense and the Pulaski County Sheriff's Reserve. Chuck enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid card player. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, football, golf, and traveling. He utilized his crafting and carpentry skills while working with the Arizona Christian Indian Mission affiliated with his church.

Formerly of Peoria, she lived in Winamac for eight years. She was a laborer.

Mary I. Kilmer, 92, of Monticello, died February 10, 2008, at the Monticello Assisted Living & Healthcare Center in Monticello. She was born February 28, 1915 in Carroll County, the daughter of Carl Metz and Lema (Heiny) Metz.
In 1933 in Carroll County, she married Frank Wigner. He is deceased. Then on July 5, 1951, she married Wilbur Kilmer. He died August 31, 1983.
Mary had lived in the Carroll/White County area all of her life, and was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Monticello. She worked as a telephone operator at the Yeoman Telephone Company for several years. Mary was the oldest member of the Oak Grove Christian Church located in rural Carroll County. She also belonged to a Home Ec. Club, and the Triple Decker Card Club, both of Carroll County.
Survivors include a son, Dwain M. [Anne] Wigner of Monticello; a daughter, Phyllis M. [Devon] Goble - Kruger of Francesville; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three greatÐgreat grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Lema Heiny - Metz; a sister, Mabel Weaver.
Funeral services were held at Miller Ð Roscka Funeral Home in Monticello on February 12, with Pastor Don Haase, and the Rev. Ashli Cartwright - Peak of the Oak Grove Christian Church in rural Carroll County officiating. Burial took place at I.O.O.F. Riverview Cemetery in rural Monticello.

Lee T. Howe, 44, of 10382 Tiburon Drive, Florence, Ky., formerly of Winamac and Indianapolis, died February 4, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Hospice in Edgewood, KY. He was born April 23, 1963, in Winamac, the son of Jerry and Mary Ash Howe.
He was a controller for Duke Energy, Cincinnati, OH. He was employed at Duke Energy for over 22 years. He was a member and Treasurer of the Florence (Ky.) United Methodist Church, and a member and coach in the Boone County Knothole Little League. He formerly coached Little League Baseball in Winamac. He graduated from Winamac Community High School in 1981 and from Ball State University in 1986. He formerly resided in Indianapolis, and lived in Florence, Ky., for the past several years.
Survivors include: his wife, Julie Johnson Howe of Florence, Ky.; one daughter: Ashlee Howe of Florence, Ky.; one son: Andrew Howe of Florence, Ky.; his father and stepmother: Jerry [JoAnn] Howe of Winamac; three brothers: Don [Sue] Howe of Winamac, Rob [Connie] Howe of Winamac, Mike [Sherri] Howe of Rockmart, Ga.; two step siblings: Julie [Dan] Middleton of Silver Lake, Ind., Jeff [Starr] Hoffman of Kewanna. Walter J. Weaver, 75, of 514 S. Market St., Winamac, died on Friday, February 8, 2008 at his residence. He was born March 22, 1932, in Star City, the son of Simon John and Anna (Link) Weaver.
On July 7, 1952 in Winamac, he married Mary Ann Thompson. Mary survives.
Walter was a 1950 Graduate of Pulaski High School. Walter was a retired farmer. He also retired in 2003 from the Indiana Department of Transportation where he had worked as a permit inspector for the Plymouth subdistrict. He had worked in the parts department of Gilsinger Implement Co. in Pulaski for 14 years. He served as the Indian Creek Republican Precinct Committeeman for 17 years. Walter served on the Pulaski White Rural Telephone Board of directors for 14 years. He loved going to auctions, antique shows, and garage sales. He loved working in his garden. Walter enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Ann (Thompson) Weaver of Winamac; a daughter, Kathy Marie [Brian] Houston of Winamac; a son, John Ralph [JoAnn] Weaver of Indianapolis; five grandchildren: Crystal Weaver, Patrick Weaver, Laura Przybyla, Abbey Houston, Mark Houston; two sisters: M. Delores Snavley, 85, of Idaville died February 15, 2008 in her residence. She was born November 19, 1922 in Sitka, Ind., the daughter of the late Bernard and Golda (Coar) Boze.
On April 2, 1949 she married John M. Snavley and he preceded her in death August 4, 2000.
She was a 1941 graduate and class secretary of Buffalo High School. Delores was a member of White Oak Church, Headlee, where she was a youth fellowship leader and sunday school teacher. She was also a Cass Township 4-H leader for many years, and an avid Indiana Pacer and Indiana University basketball fan. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, collecting antiques and Barbie dolls and she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She retired from Eaton Corporation in Winamac in 1998 after 27 years and was previously employed at Bryan Manufacturing in Monticello for 25 years.
Survivors include: two daughters: Sue Ann Shaw of Winamac, Sandi Kay Swetnam of Robinson, Texas; a sister, Belle Ward of Portage; four grandchildren: Candace Sue Shaw, Thomas E. Shaw, Sarah Ann Shaw, Jonmichael Swetnam; four great grandchildren: Tyler James Shaw, Alyssa Gabrielle Shaw, Nathaniel Jacob Hallenbeck, Sophia Elizabeth Hallenbeck. She was married to Jimmy Spence. He died in 2003.
She was a former school teacher and was an 18 year employee of Federal Mogul, Leiters Ford. She also was a devoted employee of Pulaski Developmental Services in Winamac. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge #2580 Auxiliary, Winamac. She was an avid gardener. She loved her family.
Survivors include: her mother, Clara Krynock of Winamac; a daughter, Barbara J. [Billy] Neeley of Star City; two sons: Sylvester W. [Christine] Shires of Winamac, Robert W. Spence of Winamac; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Pat Paris of Ill.; four brothers: Fred Davidson of Winamac, Rickey Krynock of Winamac, Thomas Kyrnock of Ill., Leroy Davidson of Texas. Bufford V. (Sunshine) DeBoard, 73, of Wheatfield, died February 12, 2008. He was born on July 16, 1934 in Martin, Ky., the son of the late Russel and Grace (nee: Patton) DeBoard.
On September 16, 1955 he married Loella Conley. She survives.
He loved to drive race cars, and he loved his family. He worked for Gehring Farms as an equipment operator and farmer.
Survivors include: his wife, Loella Conley DeBoard, five children: Anthony Craig [Beverly] DeBoard, Gwendolyn Sue DeBoard-Wylie, Lisa Jane DeBoard, Melanie Grace [Ernie] DeBoard-Neeley and Christopher Von DeBoard.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two brothers: Russel DeBoard, Paul DeBoard; one sister, Shelbia Bode. He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, and three sisters.
Funeral services were held February 16, 2008 at the Goodway Baptist Church of Medaryville. Interment followed in the Goodway Cemetery.

Bud W. Krohn Sr., 81, of 4640 E 50 S, Winamac, died February 13, 2008 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. He was born January 27, 1927 in Cedar Lake, Ind., the son of Charles and Clara Reichert Krohn.
On July 31, 1948 in Winamac, he married Dorothy Rose Frasa. She died Nov. 30, 2003.
He was an active farmer. He served on the ASCS Board as a Township Committeeman for many years. He was a member of Winamac Masonic Lodge #262.
He was a member of the Fulton County REMC Board of Director's for 12 years. He was a former Harrison Township Trustee for eight years, a former Pulaski Co. Commissioner for 12 years and was a Republican Precinct Committeeman for many years. He was an active volunteer in the Republican Party for many years. He was also the former Pulaski County Highway Superintendent for several years. He was a former member of the Pulaski County School Board and was serving when the Eastern Pulaski Schools were formed. He was a former member of the Pulaski Co. 4-H Fair Board and was an avid supporter of the 4-H program for over 48 years while encouraging his children and grandchildren as they participated in 4-H. He enjoyed attending Purdue athletic events with his grandchildren. He loved to attend and participate in Antique Tractor Pulls. His greatest joys in his life were his family and farming.

Stephen C. Compton, 60, of 1882 East 750 South, Star City, died February 12, 2008 at his residence. He was born July 26, 1947 in Logansport, the son of Richard W. and Aldene M. Schultz Compton.
Steve was a retired farmer. He graduated from Star City High School in 1965. Steve enjoyed watching his children participate in high school sports and show animals in 4-H fairs. He also enjoyed watching his daughter, Sara, participating in tractor pulls. Steve enjoyed time at the Oak Grove restaurant in Star City. He enjoyed driving through the country side looking at the crops. Steve was an avid coon hunter. He served in the US Army National Guard.
Survivors include: three sons: Richard C. [Tess] Compton of Royal Center, Greg D. Compton of North Judson, Scott [Angie] Compton of Star City, three daughters: Megan S. Compton of Star City, Sara J. Compton of Star City, Misty G. Eugene E. Haschel, 67, of 4893 North Royal Center Pike, Royal Center died February 15, 2008 at Hickory Creek at Winamac. He was born March 21, 1940 in Winamac, the son of Clayton and Viola Hickman Haschel.
On June 26, 1965 in Winamac, he married Karen K. Lange. She survives.
He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Winamac. Gene enjoyed farming, mowing, gardening and fishing, and tinkering in his work shop. He enjoyed time spent with his family, especially fishing trips to Minnesota. Gene also enjoyed watching sports on TV. Gene's favorite TV program was The Lone Ranger. He worked as a maintenance man for Wilson/Tyson Foods for over 35 years. He was a 1958 graduate of Winamac High School. Gene served in the US Navy from 1958-1962.
Survivors include: his wife, Karen K. Lange Haschel of Royal Center; a son, Lonny [Julie] Haschel of Lewisville, Texas; a daughter, Gwen [Don] Parker of Indianapolis; a sister, Luella [John] Weldy of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; a brother, Dean [Bev] Haschel of Monterey; three grandchildren: Drew Parker, Morgan Parker, Ali Rogers. He was preceded in death by: his mother, Viola Belle Hickman Haschel; his father, Clayton E. Haschel; a grandchild, Damon Parker.
Services were held at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Winamac on February 18, 2008 with Pastor Mel Meyer officiating. Burial took place in the McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac. The American Legion and VFW conducted military graveside services.

Beulah E. Strong Keyes, 94, of 801 N. Monticello St., Winamac, died February 14, 2008 at her residence. She was born August 22, 1913 in Walnut Prairie, Ill., the daughter of Reuben and Effie Sheets Dancey.
On July 11, 1933 in Winamac, she married Paul Strong. He died May 30, 1976. In 1988, she then married Harold Keyes. He died in 1983.
She was a member of the First Christian Church and Order of Eastern Star #96; both of Winamac. She had been employed at Miller's Ladies Store for several years.
Survivors include: a daughter, Janet S. Hansell of Winamac, two granddaughters: Jan [Rich] McIlvain of Winamac, Jill A. Kloppenburg of Hammond; four great grandsons: Robert Kloppenburg of Highland, Ind., Zachariah Norris of Aurora, Ill., Andrew Norris of Aurora, Ill., Samuel Norris of Great Lakes Naval Station, Ill.; a great granddaughter, Heidi Kloppenburg of Hammond, Ind. Dennis Jachim, 63, of Monterey, died February 16, 2008. He was born May 22, 1944, the son of Frank and Dorothy (Ostrowski) Jachim.
On August 9, 1969 in Chicago, he married Myra Oleshechuk. She survives.
He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include: his wife, Myra Jachim; four children: Raymond Jachim of Monterey, Richard Jachim of Monterey, Roman [Dawn] Jachim of Knox, Renee [Joe] Baker of Monterey; several grandchildren: Chloe and Blake Baker of Monterey, Gary Jachim of Tenn., Sharon Kalish of Fla.; and two half sisters: Barbara Lasko of Ill. and Doris Boyer of Texas. He was preceded in death by a half brother, Tony Seamon.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. CDT Wednesday, February 20 at M.C. Smith Funeral Home, Knox. Interment will be private.

Delores Snavley, 85, of Idaville died February 15, 2008 in her residence. She was born November 19, 1922 in Sitka, Ind., the daughter of the late Bernard and Golda (Coar) Boze.
On April 2, 1949 she married John M. Snavley and he preceded her in death August 4, 2000.
She was a 1941 graduate and class secretary of Buffalo High School. Delores was a member of White Oak Church, Headlee, where she was a youth fellowship leader and sunday school teacher. She was also a Cass Township 4-H leader for many years, and an avid Indiana Pacer and Indiana University basketball fan. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, collecting antiques and Barbie dolls and she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She retired from Eaton Corporation in Winamac in 1998 after 27 years and was previously employed at Bryan Manufacturing in Monticello for 25 years.
Survivors include: two daughters: Sue Ann Shaw of Winamac, Sandi Kay Swetnam of Robinson, Texas; a sister, Belle Ward of Portage; four grandchildren: Candace Sue Shaw, Thomas E. Shaw, Sarah Ann Shaw, Jonmichael Swetnam; four great grandchildren: Tyler James Shaw, Alyssa Gabrielle Shaw, Nathaniel Jacob Hallenbeck, Sophia Elizabeth Hallenbeck. She was preceded in death by her husband, John M Snavley; her father, Bernard Boze; her mother, Golda (Coar) Boze; a sister, Bernice Meltzer.
Funeral services were held February 18, 2008 at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel with Pastor Jim Clark officiating. Burial took place at Bell Center Cemetery, Idaville.

Helen Laverne Spence, 62, of 508 Summit St., Winamac, died February 11, 2008 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. She was born June 30, 1945, in Baltimore, Md., the daughter of Leroy and Clara Krynock.
She was married to Jimmy Spence. He died in 2003.
She was a former school teacher and was an 18 year employee of Federal Mogul, Leiters Ford. She also was a devoted employee of Pulaski Developmental Services in Winamac. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge #2580 Auxiliary, Winamac. She was an avid gardener. She loved her family.
Survivors include: her mother, Clara Krynock of Winamac; a daughter, Barbara J. [Billy] Neeley of Star City; two sons: Sylvester W. [Christine] Shires of Winamac, Robert W. Spence of Winamac; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Pat Paris of Ill.; four brothers: Fred Davidson of Winamac, Rickey Krynock of Winamac, Thomas Kyrnock of Ill., Leroy Davidson of Texas. She was preceded in death by: her father, Leroy Krynock, a brother, Roger Davidson, a sister, Linda Davidson; her husband, Jim Spence.
Graveside services were held February 15, 2008, in Winamac Cemetery. Burial took place in the Winamac Cemetery.

Bufford V. (Sunshine) DeBoard, 73, of Wheatfield, died February 12, 2008. He was born on July 16, 1934 in Martin, Ky., the son of the late Russel and Grace (nee: Patton) DeBoard.
On September 16, 1955 he married Loella Conley. She survives.
He loved to drive race cars, and he loved his family. He worked for Gehring Farms as an equipment operator and farmer.
Survivors include: his wife, Loella Conley DeBoard, five children: Anthony Craig [Beverly] DeBoard, Gwendolyn Sue DeBoard-Wylie, Lisa Jane DeBoard, Melanie Grace [Ernie] DeBoard-Neeley and Christopher Von DeBoard.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two brothers: Russel DeBoard, Paul DeBoard; one sister, Shelbia Bode. He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, and three sisters.
Funeral services were held February 16, 2008 at the Goodway Baptist Church of Medaryville. Interment followed in the Goodway Cemetery.

Bud W. Krohn Sr., 81, of 4640 E 50 S, Winamac, died February 13, 2008 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. He was born January 27, 1927 in Cedar Lake, Ind., the son of Charles and Clara Reichert Krohn.
On July 31, 1948 in Winamac, he married Dorothy Rose Frasa. She died Nov. 30, 2003.
He was an active farmer. He served on the ASCS Board as a Township Committeeman for many years. He was a member of Winamac Masonic Lodge #262.
He was a member of the Fulton County REMC Board of Director's for 12 years. He was a former Harrison Township Trustee for eight years, a former Pulaski Co. Commissioner for 12 years and was a Republican Precinct Committeeman for many years. He was an active volunteer in the Republican Party for many years. He was also the former Pulaski County Highway Superintendent for several years. He was a former member of the Pulaski County School Board and was serving when the Eastern Pulaski Schools were formed. He was a former member of the Pulaski Co. 4-H Fair Board and was an avid supporter of the 4-H program for over 48 years while encouraging his children and grandchildren as they participated in 4-H. He enjoyed attending Purdue athletic events with his grandchildren. He loved to attend and participate in Antique Tractor Pulls. His greatest joys in his life were his family and farming.

Stephen C. Compton, 60, of 1882 East 750 South, Star City, died February 12, 2008 at his residence. He was born July 26, 1947 in Logansport, the son of Richard W. and Aldene M. Schultz Compton.
Steve was a retired farmer. He graduated from Star City High School in 1965. Steve enjoyed watching his children participate in high school sports and show animals in 4-H fairs. He also enjoyed watching his daughter, Sara, participating in tractor pulls. Steve enjoyed time at the Oak Grove restaurant in Star City. He enjoyed driving through the country side looking at the crops. Steve was an avid coon hunter. He served in the US Army National Guard.
Survivors include: three sons: Richard C. [Tess] Compton of Royal Center, Greg D. Compton of North Judson, Scott [Angie] Compton of Star City, three daughters: Megan S. Compton of Star City, Sara J. Compton of Star City, Misty G. Conklin of Twelve Mile; nine grandchildren: Amanda Compton, Monica Compton, Kyle Compton, Brandi Compton, Shalihn Compton, Cyrus Conklin, Preston Conklin, Rylahn Toloza, Dallas Compton. He was preceded in death by: his father, Richard W. Compton; his mother, Aldene M. Schultz Compton; two brothers: George A. Compton, Rodney Compton.

Eugene E. Haschel, 67, of 4893 North Royal Center Pike, Royal Center died February 15, 2008 at Hickory Creek at Winamac. He was born March 21, 1940 in Winamac, the son of Clayton and Viola Hickman Haschel.
On June 26, 1965 in Winamac, he married Karen K. Lange. She survives.
He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Winamac. Gene enjoyed farming, mowing, gardening and fishing, and tinkering in his work shop. He enjoyed time spent with his family, especially fishing trips to Minnesota. Gene also enjoyed watching sports on TV. Gene's favorite TV program was The Lone Ranger. He worked as a maintenance man for Wilson/Tyson Foods for over 35 years. He was a 1958 graduate of Winamac High School. Gene served in the US Navy from 1958-1962.
Survivors include: his wife, Karen K. Lange Haschel of Royal Center; a son, Lonny [Julie] Haschel of Lewisville, Texas; a daughter, Gwen [Don] Parker of Indianapolis; a sister, Luella [John] Weldy of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; a brother, Dean [Bev] Haschel of Monterey; three grandchildren: Drew Parker, Morgan Parker, Ali Rogers. He was preceded in death by: his mother, Viola Belle Hickman Haschel; his father, Clayton E. Haschel; a grandchild, Damon Parker.
Services were held at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Winamac on February 18, 2008 with Pastor Mel Meyer officiating. Burial took place in the McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac. The American Legion and VFW conducted military graveside services.

Beulah E. Strong Keyes, 94, of 801 N. Monticello St., Winamac, died February 14, 2008 at her residence. She was born August 22, 1913 in Walnut Prairie, Ill., the daughter of Reuben and Effie Sheets Dancey.
On July 11, 1933 in Winamac, she married Paul Strong. He died May 30, 1976. In 1988, she then married Harold Keyes. He died in 1983.
She was a member of the First Christian Church and Order of Eastern Star #96; both of Winamac. She had been employed at Miller's Ladies Store for several years.
Survivors include: a daughter, Janet S. Hansell of Winamac, two granddaughters: Jan [Rich] McIlvain of Winamac, Jill A. Kloppenburg of Hammond; four great grandsons: Robert Kloppenburg of Highland, Ind., Zachariah Norris of Aurora, Ill., Andrew Norris of Aurora, Ill., Samuel Norris of Great Lakes Naval Station, Ill.; a great granddaughter, Heidi Kloppenburg of Hammond, Ind. She was preceded in death by: her father, Reuben Dancey; her mother, Effie Sheets Dancey; her first husband, Paul Strong; her second husband, Harold Keyes; two sisters: Mary Freeman, Rowena Larson; a brother, Francis Dancey.

Nancy Marie Kwiatkowski, 69, of 3432 W. 500 N., Winamac, died March 2, 2008 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. She was born June 15, 1938, in Oaklawn, Ill., the daughter of Clarence and Claire Kolbietz Neubieser.
On April 6, 1963 she married John Kwiatkowski, a lifelong Pulaski County resident.
She was a graduate of Oaklawn High School, Oaklawn, Ill. She received her X-ray Technician training at Little Company of Mary in Oaklawn and in 1961 moved to Little Company of Mary in San Pierre, Ind. In 1963, she joined Pulaski Memorial Hospital as one of the hospital's first X-ray technicians. She retired from there in June of 2004 after over 40 years of service. She was a 4-H leader for the Franklin Township 4-H club for many years and a member of a local Bunco club. She enjoyed raising ducks, geese and her pet llama, Oscar. She was also a friend to any four and two legged creature, but particularly her cats and dogs. She also enjoyed working in her garden.
Survivors include: her husband, John Kwiatkowski of Winamac; a son, Michael John [Angiea] Kwiatkowski of Bryan, Ohio; two daughters: Amy Joyce Kwiatkowski of Winamac, Lisa Marie Wittenhauer of Medina, Ohio; a sister, Arlene Joyce Neubieser of North Judson; five grandchildren: Maggie Kwiatkowski of Bryan, Ohio, Emma Kwiatkowski of Bryan, Ohio, Joshua Kwiatkowski of Bryan, Ohio, Ben Wittenhauer of Medina, Ohio, Elizabeth Wittenhauer of Medina, Ohio. She was preceded in death by: her father, Clarence Neubieser; her mother, Claire Kolbietz Neubieser.

David F. Nightengale, 78, of 506 Pine Lake Ave., LaPorte, formerly of Winamac, died February 26, 2008, in LaPorte Hospital, LaPorte. He was born December 31, 1929, in Francesville, the son of Herman Albert and Irene Margaret Hackett Nightengale.
David was a former resident of Indianapolis and Rockport, Texas. He had been a factory worker in Indianapolis. He enjoyed outdoor life, Nascar, football and baseball with his many friends and family.
Survivors include: a sister, Sarah Bleicher of LaPorte; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by: his father, Herman Albert Nightengale; his mother, Irene Margaret Hackett Nightengale; a sister, Caroline May Maurer; three brothers: Richard Charles Nightengale, Thomas Edward Nightingale, Phillip D. Nightengale.

Annalou Rasborshek, 84, of 12070 W. 100 N., Medaryville, died February 28, 2008 at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac. She was born August 6, 1923, in Medaryville, the daughter of Ralph and Mary Timm Manning.
She was married to Anthony Rasborshek. He died October 19, 1994.
Annalou was always interested in local and national politics. She was a former two term Pulaski Co. Treasurer and was the first women to hold an elected office in Pulaski County. She was a longtime manager of the Pulaski Co. License Branch. She was very active in the Pulaski County Republican Party, having served as Vice-Chair for many years. She attended two Presidential Inaugurations. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Medaryville Christian Church. Annalou enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She had lived in Frostproof, Fla. for over 20 years.
Survivors include: son-in-law, John [Peg] Hague of Medaryville; three grandsons: Tony [Angie] Hague of Rogersville, Tenn., T.J. [Kelly] Hague of LaPorte, Jason [Christy] Hague of Winamac; Eight great grandchildren; a sister, Katie Kohley, Hudson of Fla.; a sister-in-law, Olga Manning, Sebring, Fla. He was a member of the Star City United Methodist Church. He was a lifelong farmer and resident of Star City. He loved helping his sons on the farm after retirement. He enjoyed visiting the Four Winds Casino. He enjoyed being with his family.

She retired from Galbreath Inc. where she worked for many years as a secretary. She formerly worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC, for several years. She enjoyed golfing, gardening and reading. She was a member of the VFW Post #1728 Ladies Auxillary.

John W. Raybould, 80, of Knox, died March 9, 2008 at St. Vincent Seton Speciality Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born December 27, 1927, in Blue Island, Ill., the son of Milton and Eva Roulo Raybould.
On Oct. 29, 1949, in Chicago, he was married to Ruth Wangerin. She died on January 22, 2006.
He served in the US Navy during WWII. He was a retired Chicago Firefighter. He was a former maintenance worker at Marquette High School in Michigan City, and at St. Francis de Sales High School in Chicago. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church of Winamac. He was a longtime resident of Chicago, moving to Bass Lake following his retirement from the Chicago Fire Department in 1981. He enjoyed his family, woodworking and golf carting around Bass Lake.

Robert M. Podell Sr.

Robert M. Podell Sr., 79, of 1119 N 300 W, Winamac, died March 15, 2008 at his residence at 2407 Baywater Road in Tavares, Fla. He was born March 8, 1929, in Denham, the son of Orlie W. and Elsie Thonert Podell.
On November 24, 1951 in Denham, he married Anna Marie Porter. Anna Marie survives.
Bob was a member at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Winamac where he served as president and superintendent of the Sunday school. He also taught as a Sunday school teacher. He was an associate member of the Woodlands Lutheran Church in Montverde, Fla. Bob retired from farming in 1993. Bob served four terms on the Pulaski County Council from 1976Ð1992 and was a member of the Indiana Mint Growers Association.
Bob enjoyed golfing, fishing, spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and attending Purdue football games. Bob enjoyed spending his winters in Tavares, Fla. where he and his wife have a home and summers at their Rock Lake home near Akron.

Cora A. Cotner, 98, of 101 Constitution Drive, Francesville, died March 8, 2008 at Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville. She was born October 12, 1909 in Winamac, the son of Walter and Carrie Walters Young.
On October 18, 1930, Cora married Ralph H. Cotner. Ralph died on November 3, 1986.
Cora attended Tippecanoe Christian Church and was a member of the Jeff-Rich Home-Ec Club. She had been active in Democratic Party politics. Cora enjoyed sewing, reading and working crossword puzzles. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. Cora spent many winters at her home in Florida.

John "Oscar" Allen, age 67, formerly of Winamac, died Sunday, March 16, 2008 at Community East Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on September 8, 1940 in Peru, Ind. the son of John and Ida (Lerch) Allen.
He graduated from Winamac Community High School in 1960 and went on to graduate from Barber College. Mr. Allen was the owner of Allen's Hair Center in Indianapolis. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Peter's Catholic Church, both in Winamac. Mr. Allen was also an avid sports enthusiast who loved horses, fishing, and chocolate cakes.
Survivors include: a son, John "Bob" Allen of Indianapolis; three daughters: Connie Bair of Winamac, Lisa Foy of Atlanta, Ga., Lucille Ann Allen of Indianapolis; two step-sons: William Harvey Funk II of Union City, Ind., Eric Dean Funk of Union City; two step-daughters: Jacqueline Fay Funk of Indianapolis, Ceresa Marie Boals of Indianapolis; a brother, Michael G. Allen of Coldsprings, N.Y.; three sisters: Linda L. Bridegroom of Kewanna, Sandy Roth of Winamac, Becky Allen of Star City; the mothers of his children, Nancy Freeman of Winamac and Deana Fay "Cookie" Allen of Williamsburg, Ky.; three grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren. Howard E. Vaught, 74, of 1796 West 225 North, Winamac, died March 21, 2008 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. He was born June 4, 1933, in Kentucky, the son of William and Florence Pemberton Vaught.
On April 23, 1955, he married Ruby (Hillenburg) Vaught. Ruby survives.
Howard was a former member of Local 37 Steel Workers. He was retired from Youngstown Steel in East Chicago. He was the Owner of H&R Tavern in Portage. Howard enjoyed spending time on the Tippecanoe River in Winamac.
Survivors include: his wife Ruby (Hillenburg) Vaught of Winamac; three sons: Leston G. [Jennie] Vaught of Winamac, Larry D. [Cindy McNew] Vaught of Portland, Ore., Lorne D. Gerald Keith Topp, 83, of 502 West Jackson Street, Mulberry, Ind., died March 20, 2008 at Mulberry Health and Retirement Community in Mulberry. He was born October 10, 1924, in Francesville, the son of Lewis and Rubia Rhinehart Topp.
On November 6, 1955 in Winamac, he was married to Clara Gertrude ÒGertieÓ Locke. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 2005. She died March 11, 2006.
Gerald was a member of the United Church of Christ and the American Legion. He served as a Sergeant in the US Army during WWII serving in the Philippines and Japan. He often related stories of his wartime experiences. Gerald was a retired farmer who loved working on the farm. He enjoyed watching birds and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a former resident of Francesville and Lafayette.
Survivors include: three daughters: Susan L. Cooley of Lafayette; Dixie E. [Tim] Madren of Lafayette, Linda M. [David] Alms of Zionsville; one son, Edward J. [Karen] Topp of Crown Point; eight grandchildren; a brother, Dale [Jewell] Topp of Syracuse; a sister, Marjorie Kilander of Hobart. He was preceded in death by: his father, Lewis Topp; his mother, Rubia Rhinehart Topp; his wife, Clara Gertrude Locke Topp; two brothers: Wilbur Topp, Wendell Topp.

Catherine Hammes Reutebuch, 90, of LaPorte (formerly of Monterey) died March 21, 2008 at LaPorte Hospital. She was born April 26, 1917 in Monterey, the daughter of Peter and Anna (Schmicker) Hammes.
On June 18, 1947 in Monterey, she married Raymond W. Reutebuch. He died July 26, 1993.
She was a member of the St. Peter Rosary Society and St. Peter Catholic Church. She was very dedicated to her faith and family and was a loving mother and grandmother.
Survivors include: a daughter, Marianne [Robert Noel] Sharp of LaPorte; two sons: Donald Reutebuch of LaPorte, DuWayne Reutebuch of LaPorte; four grandchildren: Tricia Grabinski, Curtis Reutebuch, and Tim Sharp, Rachel Sharp; three great-grandchildren; two sisters: Pauline Houin of Plymouth and Dolores Girton of Winamac; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Peter Hammes; her mother, Anna (Schmicker) Hammes; her husband, Raymond W. Reutebuch; and one sister, Margaret Effinger.
Mass was held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pulaski on March 25, 2008 with Father Ronald J. Schimi C.P.P.S. officiating. A rosary service was held at Essling Funeral Home on March 24, 2008. Burial took place at St. Joseph West Cemetery in Pulaski following the mass.
Martha B. Garbison

Martha B. Garbison, 83, of Knox, died March 22, 2008 at her home. She was born September 20, 1924 in Brook, Ind., the daughter of Albert and Myra (Hawkins) Brooks.
On July 25, 1942, she married Daniel Garbison. He died November 13, 2000.
Survivors include four daughters: Agnes Middaugh of Seattle, Wash., Sandy Craft of Knox, Rhonda Tunis of North Judson, and Gail Stepp of Winamac; one son, Danny Garbison of Hanna; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her father, Albert Brooks; her mother, Myra (Hawkins) Brooks; five sisters; and six brothers.
Funeral services were held at M.C. Smith Funeral Home on March 25, 2008. Interment took place at Bass Lake Cemetery.

Robert Willard Haring, 79, of 16731 Base Road West, Medaryville, died March 27, 2008 at his residence. He was born June 2, 1928, in Monon, the son of Clayton and Irene Walley Haring.
On May 18, 1952 in Medaryville, Bob married Phyllis Jo Fulmer. Phyllis died on August 30, 1996.
He served as a Seaman First Class on the USS Sierra in the US Navy from 1946 until 1947. He attended school at the Medaryville and Teft schools. He was a farmer and he had worked at the Allis Chalmers Company in LaPorte. He had been a mechanic at the Winamac Sales-Case dealership in Francesville. He had also worked at the Tee-Pak Company in Winamac. He attended the Medaryville Methodist Church. He enjoyed time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed sports, travel and attending his grandchildren's sports, 4-H and school activities. Bob also enjoyed dancing and listening to music.
Survivors include: two daughters: Lucinda [Steven] O'Dell of Muncie, Kelly Grieger of Francesville; two sons: Eric [Becky] Haring of Medaryville, Kent [Jodi] Haring of Medaryville; a fiancŽe, Betty Vogt Wilmington of Medaryville; twelve grandchildren: Kacie Kessler, Hallie Haring, Abbie Haring, Hannah Grieger, Clayton Grieger, Garrett Grieger, Adam O'Dell, Carly Jo O'Dell, Amy O'Dell, Kara O'Dell, Nick Vollmer, Lindley Vollmer. Elizabeth was a proud 1988 graduate of Winamac High School, where she received her GED. Elizabeth was a homemaker and also a retired seamstress. She was a member of Lawton Christian Church, Lawton.

Harold Arthur Sutton, 71, of 601 E 800 N, Monterey, Ind., died April 11, 2008 at 601 E 800 N in Monterey. He was born April 9, 1937, in Star City, the son of Harold and Florence Frushour Sutton.
On April 29, 1962, in Winamac, Art married Sybil O. Craigmile. She survives.
He graduated from Star City High School in 1956. He also graduated from Indiana Business College with an Associate Degree and attended Indiana State University. He served in the US Army in Germany from 1959-1960. Art retired from farming in 1992. He was an avid IH-Farmall tractor collector and restorer. Art was a member of Winamac Masonic Lodge #262. He served eight years on the Eastern Pulaski Community School Board and was a Pulaski Co. Commissioner for four years. Art served as a Pulaski County Councilman for three years. He developed the Pulaski County Rural Address System. He directed the systemÕs implementation and monitored it for two years. Governor Mitch Daniels recently awarded Art the Sagamore of the Wabash. The presentation was made by State Senator Tom Weatherwax. Art was a member of the Winamac Presbyterian Church and served on the Church Board and Property and Personnel Committees. He served on the Pulaski County Human Services Board of Directors, the Pulaski County Drainage Board and the CDC Board. ArtÕs most prized possessions include his family and countless friendships. Art would extend a helping hand to anyone. He enjoyed talking with friends at the coffee shop.

Loraine was a member of the Indiana Pharmacy and the Arizona Pharmacy Associations and the John Purdue Club. She was also a member of the Purdue Alumni Association. She graduated from West Central High School in 1974 and received a pharmacy degree from Purdue University in 1979. She worked for Hooks Pharmacy, Fagen Pharmacy and Walgreens Pharmacy in Indiana and Walgreens Pharmacy in Arizona. Loraine enjoyed attending horse shows and attending sporting events. She enjoyed spending time with and cooking for her family. Loraine was an avid fan of Purdue WomenÕs Basketball. She supported Lupus awareness and research.

On Sept. 20, 1969, in Plymouth, he married Norma L. Smith. She survives.
Jack served in the US Army from 1944 until 1946. He received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in combat and the Silver Star Medal. Jack owned JackÕs Tropical Fish in Winamac and Tulsa, Okla., for several years. He retired from Whallon Machine in Royal Center, as a machinist in 2001. Jack was a former member of the Winamac Eagles club, Life Member of the Winamac VFW Post 1728, Life member of the DAV and a Life Member of the 80th Division Veterans Association. He was a member of the Pulaski Presbyterian Church. Jack raised birds as a hobby and was an avid woodworker.
Survivors include: his wife, Norma L. Shidler of Winamac; a daughter, Janet Berger [Bob] Paltz of San Antonio, Texas; five sons: Jimmy Lee [Carol] Shidler of Winamac, Jack W. [Sheryl] Shidler of Logansport, Joseph G. [Marilyn] Shidler of Royal Center, Donald H. [Virginia] Berger of Granger, Jeffery L. Shidler of Winamac; 24 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; a sister, Wanda [Richard] Myers of Monticello; four brothers: Edward [Lila] Shidler of Argos, Ralph Shidler of Medaryville, Larry ÒBeanÓ Shidler of Winamac, Richard [Mary Lou] Shidler of Argos. He was preceded in death by: his father, Thomas Shidler Sr.; his mother, Ruth Florence Biddle Shidler; a daughter, Joni Michelle Shidler; a son, Paul Shidler; eight brothers: John Shidler, Nelson Shidler, Orvile ÒToddÓ Shidler, Thomas Shidler, Donald Shidler, Garold D. Shidler, Wayman Shidler, Paul Shidler; a great granddaughter, Lexie Lynn Stanton.
Funeral services were held at Frain Mortuary in Winamac on April 13, 2008, with Marcia Cline officiating. Burial took place in the Pulaski Presbyterian Cemetery located at Pulaski. The American Legion and VFW conducted military graveside services.

Diana L. Walls, 55, of 3414 S 325 E, Star City, died April 6, 2008 at her residence.
She was born September 7, 1952, in Elkhart, the daughter of Paul and Ethel Akin Canen Sr.
She was a homemaker and a CNA working at MillerÕs Merry Manor in Culver. She enjoyed being a grandmother and spending time with her grandchildren. She liked to sew and crochet, gardening, flowers, and yard work. She lived in Star City for the past four years, coming from Elkhart.
Survivors include: a son, Bruce [Alisha Kneece] Walls of Kewanna; a daughter, Joanna [Duke] Kegley of Rochester, three granddaughters: Kelsey Frazin of Burr Oak, Mich., Cassondra Crider of North Judson, Andrea Crider of North Judson; two grandsons: Brady Walls of Kewanna, Bradly Walls of Kewanna; five brothers: Paul Canen Jr. of Vandalia, Mich., Dennis [Bonnie] Canen of Sturgis, Mich., Kenny [Tonya] Canen of Atlanta, Ga., Wallace [Alicia] Canen of Bristol, Edward Canen of Bristol; a sister, Nona [David] Vogelzang of Goshen; a longtime companion, Mark Reid of Star City; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her father, Paul Canen Sr.; her mother, Ethel Akin Canen.

Roger Alan Grady
May 1, 1943 - April 11, 2008
Roger Alan Grady, 64, Kokomo, died 10 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2008, in Winona, Minn., as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born May 1, 1943 in Clearwater, Florida, the son of Roger Joseph & Laura Mae (Turner) Grady. On June 3, 1978 in Louisville, Kentucky, he married Linda Dianne Owen, who survives.
Roger was a 1961 graduate of Star City High School, Star City, IN and a 1964 graduate of Tri State College, Angola, IN. Roger retired from Delco Electronics in 1999 after more than 25 years of service. In retirement he worked part time for EDS until 2006. Roger also spent countless hours volunteering at St. Joan of Arc Church and Sts. Joan of Arc and Patrick School working on computers, sound engineering and various other technology related projects.
Roger had many interests and hobbies, including woodworking, music, gardening, astronomy, photography, hiking and public service. He had been a Ham Radio Operator since high school and had an Extra Class License. He had served as Secretary of the Kokomo Repeater Club and had been active in amateur television (ATV). He was also a member of Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services (RACES) for 18 years and received the Indiana Technical Excellence award in 2000. Roger was a mentor to many amateurs in Howard County, freely sharing his knowledge and expertise. As a ham, he enjoyed storm spotting and was an active member of the Skywarn network. He was also an active member of the American Theater Organ Society.
Roger is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Linda Dianne Grady; two daughters, Elizabeth Ren˜e Grady and Kathleen Anne Grady; one grandson, Daniel Riley Sizemore, all of Kokomo; two sisters, Rita Ann Grady and her husband George Fiegle of Winfield, IL, and their two daughters, Kelsey Rose Fiegle and Lindsay Leigh Fiegle; Carol Jeanne Grady of Lowell, IN; his mother-in-law, Anna C. Owen of Toledo, OH; two brothers-in-law, William E. Owen and his wife Lucille of Rochester, MN and their five children; Thomas S. Owen and his wife Donna of Colorado Springs, CO; two sisters-in-law: Margaret K. (Owen) Reynolds and her husband Alfred of Charlottesville, VA, and their six children, and Mary J. (Owen) Dery and her husband Serge of Toledo, OH, and their six children. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Patrick Joseph Grady and his father-in-law, Stanley H. Owen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2008 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3144 S. 200 West. Rev. Frs. Theodore Dudzinski, Andrew Dudzinski & David Hasser will be the celebrants. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Joan of Arc and Patrick School and/or St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with envelopes available at the church.

Catherine C. Ash, 86, of 818 N. Falvey St., Winamac, died April 14, 2008 in MillerÕs Merry Manor, Logansport. She was born January 16, 1922, in Redkey, Ind., the daughter of Lewis and Sylvia Berrier Wandry.
On Dec. 26, 1941, in Winamac, she married Arthur L. Ash. He died Aug. 2, 2000.
She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, and the VFW Post #1728 Auxiliary, both of Winamac. She was a longtime employee of the Pulaski Co. License Branch and had also been employed at Eaton-Controls, Winamac. She lived in Winamac most of her life. She enjoyed playing cards, making pillow cases, dancing, working crossword puzzles, and participating in activities with her family.
Survivors include: two sons: Leroy G. [Jill] Ash of Logansport, John A. [Terry] Ash of Royal Center; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two sisters: Clara Hahn of Tempe, Ariz., Louise Thompson of Slater, Iowa. She was preceded in death by: her father, Lewis Wandry; her mother, Sylvia B. Berrier Wandry; her husband, Arthur L. Ash; four sisters: Esther Hahn, Betty Wandry, Laurmay Koebcke, Charlene Wandry.
Funeral services were held on April 18, 2008, in Frain Mortuary, Winamac, with Pastor Mel Meyer officiating. Burial took place in the Mc
