Charlotte M. Berger

Dec. 19, 1928 - March 22, 2023

Charlotte M. Berger, 94, of Star City, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello. 

She was born on Dec. 19, 1928 in rural White County to the late Isadore V. and Gloria M. (Snow) Roth. She graduated from Royal Center High School in 1946 and attended St. Francis College in Fort Wayne. On July 21, 1951, Charlotte married Raymond I. “Ray” Berger at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pulaski. He passed away on March 14, 2019.

Charlotte was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pulaski where she participated in the Christian Mothers Society, taught Catechism, and served as church organist for nearly 20 years. She was a member of the Niteliters Home Ec Club.  

Charlotte enjoyed painting and writing poetry as well as music in general. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles (confidently in ink) and traveling internationally with her late husband, Ray. Charlotte had the unique experience of serving as a juror during the Ford Pinto trial. She retired from Winamac High School in 1998 where she had worked as an Audio-Visual Aide. 

More than anything, Charlotte loved her family very much and will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her daughter Christina Fugate, of Monticello; sons: Larry [Laura] Berger, of Monticello and Jonathan [Jena] Berger, of Indianapolis; son and daughter-in-law: Frederick [Sally] Berger, of Rensselaer; 10 grandchildren: Elizabeth, Stephanie, Katherine, Joseph, Adam, Samuel, Wade, Charlotte, Shannon and Troy; brothers: Doyle Roth, of Pulaski and Ronald [Marlene] Roth, Sr., of Monticello; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents: Isadore V. and Gloria M. (Snow) Roth; sisters and brothers-in-law: Arvilla [Arthur] Thornbury, Phyllis [Richard] Foerg and Dolores [Charles] Gading; and sister-in-law Joyce Roth.

A scriptural wake service will be held at 4 p.m., Wednesday, March 29, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac and will be followed by a Christian Mother’s Service.

Visitation will be from 4:30-8 p.m., Wednesday, March 29 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 30, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pulaski with Rev. Andrew DeKeyser officiating.  

Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery South in Pulaski.  

Memorial contributions may be made in the form of Mass intentions.
