Claudine Childers

April 4, 1937 — April 19, 2017

Claudine Childers, 80, of Francesville, (formerly of Medaryville) went home to be with the Lord at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, at Franciscan Health in Lafayette. 

She was born on April 4, 1937, in Elmrock, Kentucky, to the late Coet and Hattie (Messer) Dobson. On Aug. 6, 1955, Claudine married Thomas J. “TJ” Childers in Ohio. He preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 1994. Claudine was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. 

Claudine had a strong work ethic and enjoyed caring for others. She had worked as a hairdresser for more than 45 years and was the owner of the Hair Hut in Francesville where she faithfully served her customers. In her early years, she had worked at the Medaryville Garment Factory. 

Claudine enjoyed hosting gatherings, shopping, traveling and spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her daughter Sheila [Jim] Buczek of Medaryville; granddaughter Erica [Jeff] Mandsager of Fishers; grandson Derek Buczek of Medaryville; great-granddaughter Hayden Mandsager; great-grandson Brooks Mandsager; brother William “Bill” [Diane] Dobson of Bradenton, Florida; sister Gladys [Larry] Stonebraker of Brookston; sisters-in-law: Alice Dobson of Rensselaer, Delores Jean Dobson of Winamac, and Adna Dobson of Monticello; brother-in-law Cecil Williams of Rensselaer; and friend Robert “Bob” Stortz of Wolcott. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Coet and Hattie Messer Dobson; husband Thomas J. “TJ” Childers; brothers: John C. Dobson, James G. “Jim” Dobson, and Hobart Dobson; and sisters: Erma J. Williams and Imogene Bell. 

Visitation was 2-6 p.m. Sunday, April 23, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 24, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville. Thurman Ritchie officiated. Burial took place at White Post Cemetery in Medaryville. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the West Central Educational Foundation to establish a cosmetology school scholarship in memory of Claudine Childers.
