Jason Lee Shorter

July 30, 1974 — March 4, 2017

Jason Lee Shorter, 42, of Indianapolis, passed away on Saturday, March 4, surrounded by his family. 

He was born on July 30, 1974, in Winamac. He was a 1992 graduate of Winamac Community High School and a 1996 grad from Purdue with a degree in horticulture science. He worked for the Department of Natural Resources for 16 years and was recently employed at Lowe’s as the online sales supervisor. 

Among his many interests Jason enjoyed gardening. He was known for cultivating orchids among many other plants. He was also known to entertain family and friends. He brewed his own beer and enjoyed cooking for others. Jason collected antique military medals and enjoyed tending to his saltwater fish tank. Jason’s love of travel led him to the Bahamas, California, and Washington D.C. to name a few.

He will be remembered for his upbeat personality.

He is survived by his parents Gerald and Patricia Shorter; his partner of 15 years Casey Vannorsdall; sister Stacy Renee [Austin] Adams; as well as numerous extended family and close friends.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 29, at 2 p.m. at his Indianapolis home. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in his name.
