Laraine May Fry

Oct. 12, 1945 — Jan. 31, 2019

Laraine May Fry passed away at 1:15 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31, at Warsaw’s Miller’s Merry Manor. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the time. Laraine gracefully battled an aggressive brain cancer her last four months of life.

Laraine was born at her home in Delong, on Oct. 12, 1945. She was raised by Charles and Dorothy Cannon, alongside her brother and two sisters. Laraine later graduated from Aubbeenaubbee High School class of 1963. She adored spending time with her neighborhood friends.

In 1965 Laraine gave birth to her eldest daughter, Beth Ann Oldfather. Laraine and her daughter Beth had a very significant and loving bond, creating many substantial memories including trips to the beach, gardening, and hours of long talks. Three years later Laraine had her second daughter Jean Ann Kirby.

During the early years, Laraine worked at Chamberlain Products as a foreman. She acquired the nickname “Kirby,” as well as many enduring friendships. After many years invested at Chamberlain Products, she worked 20 years at Federal Mogul as supervisor of more than 100 people. The friendships Kirby made at Federal Mogul quickly became deep-rooted.

On June 29, 1991, Laraine married her loving husband Marshall W. Fry in an outdoor ceremony along the Tippecanoe River. The married couple enjoyed coffee together in the morning and sitting by the river. Additionally, Kirby worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years.

In 1996 Kirby’s dream came true. She became a grandmother to Hayly Nicole Oldfather. The two enjoyed taking walks in the summer and picking wild raspberries. In 1999 Laraine was blessed with another grandchild, Cheyene Alia Oldfather. Laraine took pride in teaching Cheyene her recipes, especially peanut butter fudge. They made it so much, they perfected it over the years. Laraine touched so many lives in so many wonderful ways. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Left to cherish Laraine's memory are her husband Marshall; daughter Beth Oldfather; granddaughters: Hayly Nicole Oldfather and Cheyene Alia Oldfather, all of Rochester; sister Janet [Doug] Harrover of Jacksonville, Florida; brother Charles D. “Charlie” [Nancy] Cannon of Leiters Ford; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Laraine in death are her parents; daughter Jean Ann Kirby, 2; and sister Betty Jane Kulcher.
