Lois Arlene (Baker) Torgerson

March 28, 1925 — Sept. 12, 2016

Lois Arlene (Baker) Torgerson, 91, eased gently from this life in a favorite chair, in her cherished home of more than 50 years. She grew up on the farm with her sisters; they were horse crazy. Her nose was often buried in books.

In 1946, she married Thomas William Torgerson and they settled in Indianapolis, where they had a happy life until his untimely death in 1973. She married Harry O. Miller several years later, whose outgoing kind nature helped make life interesting again, she said. She was kind, strong, independent, private, incredibly hardworking, and fiercely loyal to her family and friends. Up to the end she was driving, pulling weeds, and enjoying life. Although a lifelong Republican, she planned to vote for Hillary.

She is survived by her children: Thomas Mark Torgerson [Ruth Deubelbeiss] and Kimberly Torgerson [Robert Madera]; sister Jeannie Jones, and an extended circle of relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents May (Hoesel) Baker and Hugh Baker; her sister Wilma Miller and husband Bill Miller.

At her request, no service will be held. Her ashes will be buried in Winamac.

Memorial contributions are welcome to Zionsville Methodist Church or the Indianapolis Humane Society.

Condolences are welcome at home or http://bit.ly/2cOQnBd, where a longer story is available.
