Lydia Lucille Kennedy

Nov. 5, 1924 — Sept. 11, 2019

Lydia Lucille Kennedy, 94, of Winamac, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 11. She passed away peacefully at the Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac. 

Lydia was born on Nov. 5, 1924, in Winamac, to the late Romie and Sylvia (Poisel) Chamness. She was a 1942 graduate of Medaryville High School. On Dec. 2, 1945, Lydia married the late Harold F. Kennedy in Winamac. 

Lydia was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Winamac and was active with vacation Bible school and Sunday school. 

Many years ago, Lydia worked at Gumz’s Farm and Kingsbury Ordnance Plant. Lydia and Harold owned and operated a drainage tile business. She was a good cook (making the best meatloaf) and enjoyed gardening. Lydia loved music and was blessed with the talent of yodeling. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Lydia especially enjoyed family gatherings full of laughter. 

She is survived by her son Ronald E. [Sue] Kennedy Sr. of Winamac; daughters: Donna Planck of Winamac, Ruth Ann [Joe] Reynolds of Winamac, Betty J. [Jerry] Knoy of Lafayette, Nancy S. [Dan] Brandenburg of Freemont, Marilyn Kennedy of Lafayette, and Carolyn Lynne Kennedy of Kingsford Heights; grandchildren: Ronald Jr., Ronda, Roger, Rebecca, Roberta, Denny, Kelly, Ken, Marsha, Justin, Jeremy, Kim, Holly, Jennifer, Justin, Jeremy, Christopher and Travis; 30 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-granchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Romie and Sylvia (Poisel) Chamness; husband Harold F. Kennedy; daughter-in-law Roseanna (Mack) Kennedy; grandson Jeff Reed; sisters: Elsie [Bert] Kersey, Ruth [Robert] Garling, Mildred [Albert] Stoll and Dorothy [Jack] Tuley; and brother Arthur [Nola] Chamness. 

Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at Frain Mortuary. Pastor Carl Lendermon and Pastor David Norris officiated. 

Burial took place at Winamac Cemetery in Winamac.
