Mary Jane (Hoesel) Taylor

March 9, 1924 — Dec. 5, 2016

Mary Jane Taylor, 92, was the only child of Hubert and Sadie “Sarah” Hoesel. During World War II she attended Indiana University, and later married Ralph W. Buck, of Star City. She taught first grade in Logansport at Daniel Webster for many years.

In August 1964, she married Russell A. Taylor and later moved to Aurora, Illinois, where she continued to teach first grade in the West Aurora Public Schools until she retired. After that they retired to Savannah, Georgia, in 1990 where they built a home at the Landings on Skidaway Island. In 1999, they moved to Colorado to be near their daughter, Jane Buck, of Denver, Colorado. Mary Jane was preceded in death by Russ in September 2002 and is survived by her daughter.

She was a member of the AAUW, P.E.O. and the DAR. She attended Methodist churches in Star City and Logansport, Presbyterian churches in Aurora and Savannah, and Cherry Hills Community Church in Littleton, Colorado. 

A graveside memorial service was held at the Star City West Cemetery on Tuesday, June 20, at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Star City United Methodist Church or IU Kelley School of Business Scholarship Fund.
