Owen Michael Abbott

Owen Michael Abbott, 13, of Winamac, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 5, in Plymouth, as the result of a school bus accident. 

Owen was born on May 2, 2005, in Winamac to Dean Abbott Jr. and Britni Weldon. Owen enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and playing sports. He was a member of Pulaski County 4-H and was active in the shooting sports club. He played baseball for Star City Little League and was on the All-Star team every year. Owen was currently a student at Winamac Community Middle School where he was a member of the football team. Owen also enjoyed playing with his toy cars and playing “Fortnite.” Like so many teenage boys, Owen loved tractors, trucks and semis as well as playing backyard football with his friends and brothers, Parker and Casen. 

Owen is greatly loved by his family who will always remember his sweet smile, complete with dimples and freckles. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. 

He is survived by his mom and stepdad Britni and Nick Fritz of Winamac; dad Dean Abbott Jr. of Star City; brothers: Parker Abbott and Casen Fritz; grandparents: Shari and Ed Felker of Winamac, Sue Thomas of Winamac, and Dean and Kathy Abbott Sr. of Camby; stepgrandparents: Don and Stacie Fritz of Star City, Maria and Jim Nicolas of Winamac, and Sharon and Michael Weldon of Monterey; great-grandparents Joanne Owen of Winamac, and Mary Abbott of Winamac; step-great-grandparents: Jim and Darlene Fritz of Winamac, and Melvin Pratt of Winamac; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his stepmom Mandi Abbott; great-grandfathers Donald Abbott and Gene “Ed” Owen; and step-great-grandmother Iva Pratt. 

Visitation was from 2-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at the Winamac Church of the Heartland and two hours prior to services at the church Tuesday. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Winamac Church of the Heartland. Pastor Heath Hiatt officiated. Burial took place at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Winamac.
