Ruth Elaine (Stout) Oliver

June 11, 1939 — Dec. 5, 2018

Ruth Elaine (Stout) Oliver, 79, of Valparaiso, formerly of Medaryville and Chesterton, went home to be with the Lord at 7:21 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5. She passed away peacefully at Golden Living Center, where she had resided the past eight years. 

Ruth was born on June 11, 1939, in Medaryville to Berl and Merl (Stotler) Stout and lovingly raised by her uncle and aunt, W. Dale and Emma Stout. She was a proud homemaker, a beautiful pianist and a devout Christian. She was a church pianist and choir director. Ruth enjoyed baking and cooking as well as gardening and canning. Her purpose in life and reason for living was her family. She will be sadly missed.

She is survived by her sons: Randy Joe [Beth] Oliver of Valparaiso, William Dale [Kim] Oliver of Mill Creek, Timothy Grant [Kathy] Oliver of Edwardsburg, Michigan, and George Thomas [Jackie] Oliver of Oak Grove, Kentucky; daughters: Emma Merl [James] Loy of Valparaiso, and Stacy Ann [Jesse] Cooper of Michigan City; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; sisters: Lovilla Tetzloff of Sturgis, Michigan, Shirley [Jim] Dunkel of LaGrange, Carol Pinks of Francesville, Elverta Moore of Rochester, and Lola Anderson of Murdo, South Dakota; brothers: Leroy [Maggie] Stout of Star City, Mark [Sherry] Stout of Star City, and Devon Stout of Star City; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Berl and Merl (Stotler) Stout; adoptive parents W. Dale and Emma Stout; former husband Billy Gene Oliver; grandson Jason Lee Oliver; brothers: Arnold Stout, George Stout, Lowell Stout and Kedrick Stout; and sister Leoria Miller. 

Visitation was from 3-6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Medaryville. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Medaryville. Pastor Roger Ash officiated. Burial took place at White Post Cemetery in Medaryville.
