Wilbur Scott “Marty” Martindale

Feb. 22, 1941 — April 11, 2019

Wilbur Scott “Marty” Martindale, 78, of Star City, passed away at 11:18 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. 

Marty was born on Feb. 22, 1941, in Oak, to the late Joseph Scott and Florence (Tomlinson) Martindale. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a life member of the Winamac VFW Post #1728. On Nov. 26, 1997, Marty married Erlinda “Linda” Quitay in Tanjay, Philippines. He was a member at All Saints Catholic Church in Logansport, for 20 years and most recently was attending St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Winamac. Marty was a retired manager at Plymouth Tube where he had worked for 41 years.

In his younger years, Marty liked racing sprint cars at Rensselaer, Oxford and Plymouth. He also liked watching NASCAR and attending tractor pulls. He was very talented with his hands and enjoyed fixing old cars and could repair anything. Marty especially enjoyed the outdoors, including gardening, mowing, cutting firewood and riding his bicycle on the Panhandle Pathway. Marty was well known for his New Year’s Eve party at the “Party Room” in his garage. He lived a well-rounded life and was very supportive of his friends and family. Marty will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him. 

He is survived by his wife Erlinda “Linda” Quitay Martindale of Star City; sons: Marty Martindale of Monticello, and Marshall [Shannon] Martindale of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; daughter Marlynn Martindale of Star City; grandchildren: Garrett, Brock, Kennady and Presley; brothers: George [Carol] Martindale of Star City, Virgil [Linda] Martindale of Humpston, Iowa, Joe [Cecilia] Martindale of Kewanna, and Jim [Brenda] Martindale of Logansport; sisters: Mildred [Eldon] Kinzie of Logansport, and Carolyn “Kay” [Jeff Henderson] Malott of Logansport; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Scott and Florence (Tomlinson) Martindale; sisters: Donna [Jim] Woodard, Stella Dilts and Gert [Skeet] Thomas; infant sister Bessie Irene Martindale; and brother Homer [Freda Lloyd] Martindale. 

Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. The Rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home followed by a eulogy. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Winamac, with Rev. Leroy Kinnaman officiating. Burial with military honors will take place at Buck Cemetery in Thornhope. The American Legion and VFW will assist with military graveside services.
