Former sheriff investigated

Former Pulaski County Sheriff Mike Gayer is pleading his innocence after an Indiana State Board of Accounts report was recently released and indicates that Gayer is to reimburse the county approximately $20,632.19 for missing equipment and the State of Indiana $6,005.15 for audit costs. 
A special investigation was conducted on the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office expenditures relating to guns and ammunition, between Jan. 1, 2011, and Dec. 21, 2014, when Gayer served as sheriff. 
In November of 2015, the Pulaski County Commissioners were contacted by the Indiana State Board of Accounts in regards to waiving the waiting period of the state board of accounts report. The waiver was approved by the commissioners but the report was not released to the public until Friday. 
The audit report has been forwarded to the Indiana Attorney General and the Pulaski County Prosecutor. 
Because of an ongoing investigation by the Indiana State Police, a special prosecutor from Marshall County was assigned to the case in September of 2015 and a search warrant was done on Gayer’s home in Francesville.
