Francesville approves repairs to walking path, tennis court

The town of Francesville is reacting like many other municipalities in the state and preparing to apply for road repair grant funding. 
To do so the town will send two employees to training, where they will learn to assess and inventory the roads. That assessment is then used for additional grant funding from the Indiana Department of Transportation that is working with the Indiana Local Technical Assistance program. 
Clerk-treasurer Linda Bennett said the Local Option Income Tax funding that the town will be receiving can be used as the 50-50 grant match. 
Any additional funds the town might have can also be used toward the match. Bennett estimated the additional funds to be about $30,000.
The town may have to wait until fall before any street work will be done due to the grant application process.
Council president Andy Durham said he realizes it is best to wait on the road projects but he wants to address the walking trail and tennis court at the park. 
He questioned if the company that they received a quote from would work on the two smaller projects or if the road repair has to be included before they will begin working. 
Street superintendent Brad Stevens believes that once the municipalities start receiving the grant funding the company will be busy with work. 
A motion was approved to hire the company to complete the seal work on the walking trail and tennis court. 
Bennett and town employee Walter Craig will be attending the assessment training.
