Winamac High School names top graduates
Winamac Community High School has announced its top two graduates for the 2015-16 school year.
Madeline Murray, daughter of Tim and Joan Murray of Winamac, has been named valedictorian and Emily Downing, daughter of John and Denise Downing, is the salutatorian.
Murray is a National Merit Scholar, a member of the National Honor Society and has achieved distinguished honor roll status while attending WCHS.
She has been an active member of band, choir, drama, quizbowl, student council, Shakespeare Club and National Catholic Youth Conference.
Clubs and other activities have included Future Problem Solvers, Key Club, HOBY Leadership, Student Leadership Institute as well as Hoosier Girls State. Murray has also found time to help manage the Winamac soccer team.
Her future plans upon graduation are to attend Butler University in Indianapolis and major in communications.
Salutatorian, Downing has been an active member of the Winamac Community High School concert band and pep band where she was named junior band student of the year. She has also been a member of the Future Problem Solvers, Academic Super Bowl, both the conference math and writing teams, National Honor Society, STEM and the Venture Crew.
She has received the Venturing bronze, silver and gold award and the Ad Altare Dei award.
Downing has participated in track, soccer and cross-country.
After graduation, Emily plans on studying mechanical engineering at Purdue University.
