County EMS sees transfers paying off

Pulaski County EMS has some positive news after some rocky issues earlier this year with losing employees. 
Pulaski County EMS Director Nikki Lowry said the department currently has enough staff for a third vehicle to run.   
“We have been busy. We have been very, very busy — a lot of critical calls,” she said.   
In the month of November, the department responded to 153 calls. Of those calls 50 were transfers. Lowry said the third truck took 26 of the transfers. 
When Pulaski County EMS can staff a third truck with a paramedic, advanced life support (ALS) transfers can be  offered. 
Commissioner Larry Brady questioned if the department is “covering your losses” with these trips.  
Lowry said they are billing and receiving payments for those services. Because the outside agencies are calling for ALS services, the cost of the transfer is much higher.
