Stalbaum looking to make impact with school board

Now that North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation Board Member Derrick Stalbaum has attended a few meetings, he has a better understanding of the changes the corporation is making. 
Stalbaum was appointed to the school board in June as the Pulaski County representative. The school board appointment could only be filled by someone from Pulaski County and in the North Judson-San Pierre School District.  
Stalbaum said he saw an advertisement for the position and someone had mentioned to him that he would be a good candidate. He was then one of three people who were interviewed by the Rich Grove Township Trustee, Deloris Locke, and two of the township board members. 
He was sworn in as a board member in July and replaces Larry Lambert, who served on the school board for 16 years. 
Since he has been a member of the board, Stalbaum has attended three meetings and seen a number of issues addressed. 
Stalbaum said he is actively seeking information as to what the constituents want. 
Currently, one of the issues the school board is facing is whether or not to change to an elected board. If that were to occur, the first election regarding the school board positions would not happen until 2018 when the term of a current school board member ends.  
Stalbaum will now serve a four-year term.    
Other school board members include Michael Sharkozy, Michael Shireman, Patricia Goin and Jim Menis.
