Alice J. Becker

Alice Jean Becker, 92, of Noblesville, formerly of Winamac, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 2. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. 

Jean was born on Aug. 28, 1932 in Delphi, to the late Charles and Margaret O. (Gerner) Hein. She went to St. Peter’s School through the 8th grade and attended Winamac High School earning a GED later in life. On Nov. 3, 1951, she married Eugene Paul Becker at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Winamac. Gene passed away on May 24, 2006.  

Jean was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and was active with the Christian Mothers and Ladies of Charity, helping to prepare and serve many funeral dinners over the years. In recent years, she has attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cicero. She was a devout Catholic throughout her life.

For many years, Jean raised chickens and sold fresh eggs (pick-up and delivery). She also raised and sold strawberries, tomatoes, sweet corn, etc. While she devoted most of her life to being a wife and mother, she also worked as a custodian at Winamac High School and retired from Eaton’s in 1999 where she worked on the line.  

She is survived by son Kaye [Pamela] Becker, Plymouth; daughters: Debra [Michael] Hineline, Noblesville, Paula [Thomas] Conley, Indianapolis, Mary [Scott] Salisbury, Enid, Oklahoma and Carey [Jeff] Becker-Walker, Shakopee, Minnesota; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents: Charles and Margaret O. (Gerner) Hein; husband Eugene Paul Becker; sisters: Dorothy Irene O’Donnell, Ruth Marie Dawson Swayze, Mary Elizabeth Fritz, Mildred Marquis and Roseann Ols; infant brothers: Donald Charles Hein, Harry Hein, Jerry Hein; and brothers: William J. Hein and Charles R. Hein. 

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., Monday, July 14, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 15, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Winamac, with Rev. Anthony Rowland officiating. 

Burial will take place at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Winamac.
